Re: Barking on chain

I agree with muleman and goose. Barking in the pen at home is my pet peeve also, I will not tolerate it! Train horn, siren, coyotes or other dogs howling will get mine going sometimes though. My pen is 100 yards from my back door, if their barking and I turn the back porch light on they hush mid bar...

Re: Barking on chain

"Half way back to the house and he's going again". That's when you have to be committed to the task at hand! You turn around and go right back out there as many times as it takes.

Re: Dog thieves

I got a stolen dog story a man I used to work with told me. He had a farm in the woods surrounded mostly by paper company property, said he raised 2 beautiful bluetick puppies that he let run loose around the place. Said they got where they were trailing good and running the fool out of deer and fox...

Re: ??? Tips For Keeping Dogs In The Desert ???

Expanded metal blocks a lot more air flow then it seems like it would. My son had an airboat with expanded metal around the side of the prop cage, boat would not plane with two people. Changed to 2x4 panels and boat performance increased dramatically. Would haul butt with two people. So I think 2x4 ...

Re: ??? Tips For Keeping Dogs In The Desert ???

Pegleg mentioned automatic waters, be careful how you rig it up. It's probably a nobrainer for y'all but I had a buddy install some in his kennel one time connected to a garden hose. if the hose is in the sun the water in it gets scalding hot which resulted in the water at the licker was always scal...

Re: Hello

Congratulations on your new found passion! Good looking hounds!
David spared preaching to you so I'm going to...a little.
Keep your priorities straight, God, Family, Job, before the hounds. If you have a compulsive nature like myself and I think David does, it is very hard, at times very very hard.

Re: Dog thieves

Pegleg, I would consult with a attorney. I think it would take a lot of starch out of them if they get a call from the attorney. My buddy's dog was stolen by a woman, he found her with the dog, called the sheriff office, woman told deputy it was her dog, buddy told deputy it was his dog. Deputy said...

Re: Pups that come from a dam that died from retained Placenta

Don't have any advice about buying the pup, but whether you do or not. If your bitch is healthy and you like her I'd breed her. I've raised a lot of pups out of 10 year old bitches. At that age that's the best thing they can do for you, hopefully give you hounds like her to hunt for another decade a...

Re: Bobcat Dog by Dave Peightal

David, you can put me down for an autographed copy just in case we don't see each other again this side of Glory. You said you'd sign the one I've got but we forgot about it before we parted. You need to plan a trip here in a couple years when I retire, we'll try to run the hair off whatever culls I...

Re: The demise of the hound

Shade, I understand where you are coming from because I got out of fox/cat hunting for several years. When I went to get back into fox/cat hounds I had a heck of a time finding hounds that suited me due to everybody else around here had quit too due to no place to hunt. A couple of guys I met on thi...

Re: The demise of the hound

Shade, just curious, what kind of hunting are you doing, coon, bear, cat fox or what?
1bluedog, I'd never heard of the man either. Did go coon hunting a few times with a old man back in the early 70s, he had a dog he called Smokey River something, maybe he knew of him.

Re: The demise of the hound

Good hounds are a lot harder for me to find than it used to, but all my contacts, kinfolks and guys I used to hunt with have quit or are gone. I've judged the open field trials here for quite a few years and see there are some guys that still have some really good hounds. None of them are from my sm...
