Re: Dogs Loading Up
Just get a flat bed with boxes on the side so you have to lift every one in. Then you don't have to feel bad for your dog not loading. [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES] Oddly enough my lab will self load himself in the hunting truck but I've never had a hound do it. Launch up about 30 inches into a ...

Re: Looking for Lion hunting advice
Personally I'd bring 3 or 4 hounds (none of which run yotes) and 2 sleds, make sure you've got a landowner chip and then find the game. Lions will be where the game is or at least someplace with game and probably not way up top. Then just hope for snow and don't be afraid to drive to find it in the ...

Re: The worst hunting jam you've been in
My worst jam came on a fall coon hunt where we where it was late and we were going to try one last field. It was my hunting partner who got the worst of it. Running in country we were not familiar with and during that dreaded time when the ponds start to freeze up but the coon are starting to get pr...

Re: Bear leading dogs to porky pine
Well I don't have much proof of bears running the dogs past porkies but I do know I've had less issues in the summer/fall vs other seasons. We just don't seem to get in them much in bear season. Now back when I coon hunted a fair bit it was more common or sometimes in winter hunting. I've seen just ...

Re: Telemetry Collar on a Bobcat?
Have ya ever tried to handle a wild barn cat? Add some lbs and pissier attitude. I just envision the whole handling thing going badly. Plus, don't think its legal to affix a tracking collar to a wild critter unless its part of a legitimate tracking study. Heard of some guys that did just what you're...

Re: Hello from south texas
I'd echo what David said and I've found it's easier to trap a cat than catch one with the dogs. Course sometimes both seem impossible.

Re: Laying out over night
I can't say I've hunted until dark and stayed until the am to get going on a track the next morning. I have parked on a nice cat track at 0 dark 30 and waited until dawn to get going. Many times old Bobbie and his friends had crossed again by the time the sun peaked out. And if I had to say it, most...

Re: Bear gun?
For the vast majority of people, a nice short rifle in a 30 call or better with open sights is best. Although shot number 1 matters most, a rifle allows a much better follow up shot if needed. A pistol is only preferred because it's always on you, other than that I haven't noticed any advantages. I'...

Re: Has it always been this hard?
This has been a long thread but I've got a couple additional thoughts. People starting out always get going with too many dogs and frankly that sets them back. The old saying of you don't need more dogs, just better ones always ring true. Better to focus on one or two to get going vs a truck full. S...

Re: Garmin TT10 Repair No More
I've got a new garmin question for the pros. One of my collars links to satellite and gives me a double or triple blink like it should. Everything looks great until the dog gets 50 yards and then nothing, lost reception. Thought it might be the antenna so I swapped that, still same thing. Thought ma...

Garmin TT10 Repair No More
Just a heads up to everyone that garmin will no longer repair any tt10 collar and will not give a discount on the purchase of a new tt15. So don't waste your time calling calling. I haven't seen this posted on here but have seen it elsewhere. I got the song and dance to be thankful I got 5 years of ...

Re: RE: Re: Bobcat Dog by Dave Peightal
Wind storms can make it a paradise/playground for the cats and just the opposite for the canines. It ain't so great for fat guys in wool pants either. Summer time can be worse with all the brush growing up through the downed trees. It's getting better but still some areas are just plain awful. I sw...

Re: Bobcat Dog by Dave Peightal
David, I'd be in for a couple as well. Heck I still got that old map you marked up for me. A wind storm really beat up that country and the wolves moved in as well.

Re: Question for experienced bobcat hunters
Ive got some experience cat hunting, mostly bad. [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES] Not sure what I can add to this thread except it's such an interesting read to the varied experiences across the country. In our unknown snow belt country there is getting to be darn few cat chasers left. Ya never kno...

Re: Trail Cameras
Gritty, With good dogs an alpha or astro is more of an advantage than a trail camera, bar none. You are given the info of where the hunt is headed and the dogs rarely get out of pocket on you. You know where you have to go locate the chase. And even the last place the chase was. It's the same advant...
