Re: Patterdale for badger
I don't know anything about the patterdale but I have a Jagd terrier that is hunting machine, sounds like he's a lot like the patterdales, rats, mice, rabbits, heck I even run him on bear and lion. If it moves he hunts it he clears out 40 foot culverts on a regular basis

Re: Neutering males without a vet
Very similar to cattle, one small slit pull each one out and cut off. Spray with vetricin and then blue kote for 6 days. Give a shot of penicillin for 3 days or oral antibiotics for 5. Limit activity for 10. If you can sedate you could cauterize the tubes.

Re: Tapeworm help!
The biggest problem with tapeworms is when you worm them you kill the adults you do not kill the eggs which will hatch 7 days later so you have to start an aggressive worming program to get rid of them.

Re: Some beginner questions from a hunter looking to get into hounds
Welcome to the world of hound hunting, scour this site you will find lots of useful information. The smallest breed of hound is the beagle there may indeed be some good ones out there that can run cats but if that is your hope and desire I would stick with more like the Walker bluetick redbone type ...

Re: Training Not Translating to Field
Like what was stated previously drags don't do your dog any good. If you're going to do anything with scent look up Mike Leonard's cat dog training on this forum. Instead of doing a drag you actually Place scent like an actual cat walks no animal actually drags their body on the ground. If you're tr...

I was bear hunting in Arizona last week and I had four dogs die. these dogs ranged in age from 9 to 2 years. These dogs are used to hunting in 90-plus degree weather and were in decent shape. It was in the mid 50's when this race started. It was not an exceptionally long race considering some of my ...

Re: MULES,HORSES AND HOUNDS
If the mule is trained to be hobbled you can go that route however I have seen many mules that can make some good distance with hobbles on. I typically leave my halter on and tie the lead rope to a tree fairly close to where the dogs are. In the country I hunt it is a luxury to be able to get close ...

Re: MULES,HORSES AND HOUNDS
I don't know if I fully understand what you're asking I would go easier on the younger dogs versus the older dogs. Once a dog is well trained they will try to please you and will learn what doesn't. No worries about the questions whether we've been doing it our whole life or not you can always learn...

Re: Any issue running young "lion" dogs on coon
Everybody has their own opinion but I like to start young dogs on small game because it's easier to find lots of it and get them lots of experience before you actually take them to the woods. I would not do a lot of cage work I would do live work as that's teaching them the same kinds of things they...
