Re: Trump

Some really good thoughts and posts. I thought about the 2008 election between Obama and McCain how I really didn't like either, so I voted for McCain. Likewise in 2012 I couldn't believe Obama was still in the office as COC and Romney was the GOP nominee. I voted for Romney, but not with very much ...

Re: Lake Tahoe Houndsmen

Thanks Jim. I appreciate the help. I'd be a little concerned about rattlesnakes on the NV side. I worked around ELy, NV and they were thick.

Lake Tahoe Houndsmen

I'm will be traveling from Montana to Reno/Lake Tahoe area to work on a construction project from late May until October. Does anyone have any recommendations for hound friendly areas for coon hunting, clubs, training areas, or license requirements for either NV/CA. I have two hounds that will be wi...

Re: Wanted hound dog

Keep watching this forum on the classified section or coondawgs classified forum, ever so often someone has a good cross-bred or grade hound for giveaway. You will just need to pick it up. Be patient and say a prayer for the perfect hound. It works. I found mine in Oregon after the owner drove off w...

Re: caging coons for dogs

I took my Walker hound out before daylight this morning and she hunted and treed like a seasoned hound. She still doesn't open on track, but barked solid on a coon she ran into a base of a hollow tree. The coon was only in the tree a few feet and growling ever few seconds. The second she barked on t...

Re: Montana Reduced Quotas

I would guess some are being killed by people using game calls since that is getting more popular.

Re: caging coons for dogs

I took this young hound out twice this week, 1st night she hunted pretty hard even through it was about 70, but she never barked on a track. Last night we hunted until midnight, and she didn't want to hunt too hard, I lightly scolded her and she hunted out further, maybe a 100 yards, and never opene...

Re: Great night!

Huntwyo - great hunting trip. Sounds like Boozer is doing good. I really enjoy hearing your story of raising your hound. I live an area where I can let my hound and wife's dog roam around a bit and I think all the walks and trips to the mountains help develop a hound. Are you planning to run him on ...

Re: caging coons for dogs

Thanks for the help. Just got the walk with wick book and plan on getting some tips. Not going to run any since they have little kittens right now until around early summer. The state I'm currently working in has a spring squirrel season so I will be getting her hunting in May. I thank the reward of...

Re: caging coons for dogs

Northwoods thanks for the help. I will checkout the book and read. Her trailing ability is amazing just need lots of help in the treeing locating part. She only seems to bark when she sees game, is that normal for younger dogs about an year old? This is first walker (had plotts and b&t) , but It...

caging coons for dogs

Does anyone in states where there is no restrictions on coon hunting, catch coons in live traps, lie a scent trail and pull the cage up in a tree for the dog to tree? I don't the want the dog gething used to sight running game. And I don't have any experienced hounds to train with. It seemed to deve...

Re: Free casting

Never free-casted in Colorado, but used too a lot in eastern Oklahoma for coons/bobcat. We would always hunt on foot or mule. Being a former resident of Colorado I used to find fresh tracks fairly often in the winter. I think it would open up lots of country if your dog's handled good and we're tras...

Re: Young walker not very open

I appreciate the advice. This morning she treed at a hollow snag and wouldn't give up. It seemed to be a hot scent. She has been barking at visual and/or smell from when we pass housecats on the road. I plan to get her on some coon in the next few weeks, I agree that she just needs the confidence to...
