Re: Help help help
You shouldn't have to update the collar in order for it to be recognizable to the handheld. Only the handheld needs updated for communication to occur. I would check to make sure that the handheld actually loaded the update. The easiest way to determine if it worked is to plug it back into the compu...

Re: Snowmobile Question
I'll throw in my .02 about the atv with tracks. They "have their place" for sure but they are not the answer to every situation. They are cold to ride compared to a sled but they provide better visibility(at least I think so). They are slow and burn a lot of fuel yet I've personally never ...

Re: DC50dog track distances
Kiwi, I'm just assuming that your talking about the "distance traveled" field and you reset both dogs at the same time. If your dc40 is set on a short update rate like 5 second and the dc50 is set to a longer update rate like 30 seconds or longer, the longer update rate will take out a lot...

Re: Porcupine Territory
has anyone ever had a dog loose an eye to a pocupine ? it seems like it would happen Funny you ask this...I got a pup last fall and it never crossed my mind to worry about porkys. My older dogs were broke off them a few years back and it just slipped my mind until a couple days ago when all the hou...

Re: Fact or fiction?
Here is my take, worth exactly what you paid for it...... Females are, in my mind, more reliable. They are only in heat once or twice a year. So the balance of the time they are basically the same dog every time you turn them out. Males on the other hand are in heat every day. They may catch a smell...

Re: Sampson the great!!!!
Have to say, sad to hear of his passing. Lots of people and their breeding programs were influenced by him. As mentioned, he was a good reproducer. The pup I have out of him is a good one.

Re: Alpha Problems
Well I put 3 hours on the dogs in the same spot as yesterday and never lost signal once with all the collars...chalk it up to bad GPS signal day :? I haven't had that happen yet with my Alpha, but I do recall one day when I was running the astro with dc20 and dc30 collars and all the collars lost G...

Re: Alpha problems
I would say that if all your collars can't be tracked out past 900 yards, but tracked well inside that, you need a better antenna on your Alpha. If your in a truck, use the magnet mount one, they work very well. If your on foot, you can get a hand held "long range" antenna and the work wel...

Re: Recommendations for a tattoo set ?
I've never tattooed a dog, but have done hundreds of cows. Why wouldn't a cow setup work for a dogs ear? I'm sure you'd want to tape their mouth shut but other than that, it would work....at least in my mind it should.

Re: 320 mapping help!!!!!
Sounds like a deer chase....From your description, the dogs will go a while and bump some deer or elk or moose and turn on a hellish trash race. That is the only time I have had my Astro "scatter tracks all over the map" and shortly after that, they leave the country hot on a moose and I s...

Re: dog wont leave side
Boarhunter is very correct, patients is required... I would also add in a few things... 1. Set him up to win. Don't just ship him with the old dogs and expect him to follow. Start him out first, giving him a good honest chance to know for sure what you want and giving him a chance to start the track...

Re: Best flashlight.
I would say that the Surefire lights are my favorite. Expensive as hell but durable and bright. The only thing they need is a homing device implanted in them or strap a Garmin collar to them so you can find them if you lose them. Over the last 4 or 5 years I've lost 2 and it makes me want to cry whe...

Re: astro 320 dog tracks
Problem is your track log get full and will quit displaying the tracks. If you "start new hunt" each time your issue will be resolved.
Hope this helps you out.
