no hair on tip of tail

Postby bowtech36 » Thu Mar 05, 2015 4:55 am

Almost all the hair on last inch of tail is gone. Almost like a scab now/dry skin. Only on.my two main dogs. Rest of the hair on body is fine. Rest of tail is fine. I don't see them chewing. Is it just from consistently smacking it on brush and dog box?

I think you are right. One of my hounds has the same problem. I don't think they can feel much back there or something and they just wack the hell out of it or vice versa.

Dogs that are tail whippers will keep the hair off the last inch or two of their tails if they do a lot of cold trailing. Thats where you see a lot of dogs in the southwest with tails dock part way. Up here some of us cut a 1/4 to a 1/2 off the tails before 3 days old when we remove the dew claws. It takes care of the problem. Dewey

Thanks I've heard that's why a lot a lot of guys do it. Just making sure they didn't have some secret tail rot I didn't know about. My male is a serious tail whipper when he's cold trailing. Makes sense.
