We put in for a info request and this what we got back:
1. For the year’s 2013 and 2014 ( to date )were the numbers reported ONLY bear harvested by hunters, if so how many ?

Answer – Bear take information reported in the 2013 bear take report includes only bears taken by hunters. The total reported hunter take in 2013 was 1,064. For 2014, thus far (10-28-14), the hunter bear take is 916.

2. Were any bear that were depredation, traffic fatalities, or any other instance that the result was a bear fatality ( other than a hunter ), added into the end of the year numbers for 2013 and to date for 2014, if so can you please break down how many were from hunters and/or other circumstances?

Answer - Please note as asked, no non-hunting bear fatalities were added to the bear hunter take numbers for both 2013 and 2014.

And as of January 15, 2015, the California black bear harvest is: 1342

Always minor problems everywhere I know of. Yesterday a guy in Mariposa walked out on his porch and got chewed up by one that he didn't see when he went out. Ate him up pretty good but he'll be o.k. F&W is looking for it.

so kick why doesent this guy file a law suit against ole ted lieu and stiengburg , they are directly responsible for these attacks, this is not an act of god, this will get worse these animals have lost fear of man , none of this was based on scientific data// all of this is simply these idots don't like any type of hunting... and if I hear one more time that the fish and bunny cops are on our side I'm going to loose my cool jim

Jim if you got the impression from my post that I think F&W is on our side you mis-interpreted it. I just stated the fact that F&W was trying to find the bear that ate the guy up.

Does anyone have depredidation data for 2014-2017? I'd like to see how this is trending.

depredeidation kills jumped from 64 to 143 in 2013 to 2014.
