Using a telemetry collar along with your GPS probably wouldn't help you anyways as it sounds like you never learned how to use telemetry equipment.It's really not as difficult as you make it sound,it just takes a little experience.
I have seen people that has been using them for 20+ years say the same thing. You get signal bounce and will have false readings, especially arround these mountains, you spend more time looking for your dogs than the whole race takes, you can have a one hour race turn into several hours of just trying to locate your dogs, not my cup of tea.
Why ride a horse and buggy when you can drive a car? About the same difference in my opinion.
