Old time Finley River walkers made excellent lion dogs well known for cold trailing , very determined and most had great bawl mouths on them. A friend and I got a pair of pups from John Monroe in the early 70's, a female out of Finley River Joe and a male out of Beaver Lake Lightning. We crossed these and our success with these pups was excellent! They started early and broke off trash quick and made some really nice dogs and they also had those big chuckle heads on them and were good looking too boot. Time moved along and my freind passed away in an accident, and I was moving around a lot in those days with my work and sold out of these dogs, but I have many fond memories of hunting with the Finley river strain.

The Glenn family of Arizona no doubt one of the most famous western families of bare ground lion hunters had a female Glenn's Belle that was a direct daughter of Finely River Cheif She produced Glenn's Jack which was part of the foundation dogs that the Glenn's still hunt today. Other well know producers in this line are Nances Little Topper who when crossed on Morosok's Belle who was sired by Merchant's Banjo II produced another of their foundation dogs, Glenn's Spot.So for sure the Finely River line has roots very deep in the big game hound world.

I would guess most, ( not all) of the hounds used by hunters here have Finley River breeding in their lineage. Have owed some good ones myself. Al
