Re: New Litter

Postby Mr.pacojack » Wed Sep 09, 2009 12:38 am

I do like those dogs that can slow a track down and push it on their knees but I also want him to be able to speed it up and drift it and run it hard when he can and it seem like I see alot of dogs that can really track and grub an old track and their top speed is the high end of slow or are so fast they can't work and grub an old track and you can't settle them down. I am not asking for much, I just want it all and I wont stop til I get it or die trying.
I probly cull faster than I should but I am very hard to please. I wont make an excuse for a dog, all dogs make their mistakes and that is fine but when it becomes a habit it is the last thing they do with me .
I know everyone on here has the perfect dog because I read all these stories they write but I will tell you I don't :? They must hunt harder than me I guess.

Well I am not diappointed so far infact I am very happy, so far with them. I know it doesn't mean anything to have 9 week old pups go crazy on a trainer but it does produce alot of hope for them.
The pup with the bob tail is out of Poco's dogs ( Joe Dirt) and the red and white pup is out of Houndnhorse's dogs (Waylon) and the othe three are from this litter out of Star and Duece.

When you have a pup firing on a smiley face you know you got a good one, it will always be a happy good day when you have it hunting with you :?

Hey just some questions about the dogs that you have bred so far. I know that you use your dogs to run all game whether it be lion, bobcat, bear. Have you found that some crosses produce different traits that make them a better lion or bobcat dog apposed to another cross that seemed to really excell on bear but were still good on lions and bobs. I know that alot of the old time breeders made different crosses for different reasons and many times it was because that particular cross made good dogs no matter what you ran them on but also that they really excelled at on one or the other. I have talked to a few houndsman and gotten a pup or two from them in the past and many times they ask me what I prefer to hunt and how I plan on hunting the dog. Usually they say something like, "well they all make fair dogs but there is one cross that I like a little better for bear and there is this other cross that I have been making that do real well on bobcats or lions etc....Yet its the same line of dogs. I hope this all made sense.

Reagan, to throw in a few thoughts. from past experience. If you breed good lines of hounds, that has been bred mainly for bear, they will be bear dogs. You can run a cat, or lion, and do a pretty good job, maybe even one that is special. Will the whole litter turn out as good as a man that has bred a line for straight cat dogs, I doubt it. Can you take the cat dogs, and make bear dog, same applies, if you mix the lines, good houndsman has bred for years, well, you will end up with some liking bear, more and some prefer cats. They will run either but all dogs have a preference, cats, bear, coon, deer etc. Then it boils down to what fits you and your area you hunt, speed, grit, nose, feet, etc. In my opinion, you can make a dog to run about anything. But to have aline, that fits you, and your not culling hard, may want to find some lines, in terrain, the same as you, which hunts the same game, with sucess.

I haven't updated the progress on this litter in a while. I kept 2 pups a male Chaos and a female Maehem. Here is a pidture of them on bear. Mae is facing right and Chaos is to the left of her. This is their first bear season on they are rockin. The last bear I got them on, Chaos got chewed up and pretty bad so he is on vacation for a week or so.
Enjoy.

I have a female that is heavy(top and bottom) (old) Hickory Nut Harry, she has no Bozo. I have not bred her yet, I have had her for a year now and I wanted to see how she hunted first and see what kind of dog she is.

Devin have you bred this female yet or plan to in the future?
