Is there anyone that breeds mountain cut dogs in or around the va area. Mainly want one to put on coin but might throw it in a bear pack just to see how it does. Thanks

There is gentleman on Craigslist that has a 8 month old brindle cur started on squirrel for 400. 3 weeks ago I got a 7 year old gyp from him to squirrel and coon hunt. She's a broke dog. He seems to be a very honest man and at 8 months old you can probably make it whatever you'd like to

Depends on your style of hunting. I would suggest a bear stock hound cur cross, the old timers just call em curs. To me they tend to strike a hotter track and have the bottom to put a runner up. A straight mnt. Cur will run a bear for sure but it seems most are squirrel bred, at least in my parts. My hot striking jump dog is a lep cur bearstock redbone cross and he couldn't be bought. Just my thoughts and experience, that and a ham sammich gets you lunch haha.

I don't have any mountain curs but I have a litter of leopard cur/hound whatever you want to call them crossed with a plott about to drop any day in southern PA. The mother and father are both coon hunted and the father(plott) has been bear hunted as well. I have had curs for awhile and these dogs act very similar and handle better than a few of the curs I have had. They are open on track that is the biggest difference in them and the curs I have had.
