Looking to buy out-of-print hound books!

Postby slobberdoc » Mon Jan 26, 2015 9:08 pm

Hi, I'm looking to add to my collection of hound books...I have just about everything currently in print.
Looking to buy or out-of-print books, including
"Life of the Greatest Guide"
"Call of the Hounds" (Cameron)
Anything by Obe Cory
"Brave" (Matthes)
"Lion Tales" (Kibler)
Or anything else similar. Like I said I have almost everything that is in print..
PM if you have any of these titles or other out-of-print hound books...Thanks!
Yes I have searched online for these titles...I am not willing to spend ridiculous prices for a book...

I've got some extras I'd consider trading. There are two books by Carl Johnson and one by Leo dollins that I haven't been able to find. Rich

I would love to get a copy of Brave

Good luck getting those books at a good price .I had two of them but I gave them away to a friend in NH who shared his passion for hounds and bears with me .

Guys try over seas. Europe has lots of little bookstores that collect estate libraries. Often there's these titles included at very reasonable prices. Abe's and amazon type online sources are OK but they quickly set prices at their figures and everyone uses it as a guide. I've bought lots of books overseas for less the $5 . its a bit of trouble looking them up but saves money. Another course is enter the titles and authors in any foreign languages you can. Spring and summer seem to be the best times to buy them.

Well I started by actually being there and looking. I've also left some of my books overseas. But I found you can do it online. What I typically do is this. Pick a country that might have Americans or native hounds people. Although its not really needed it helps. Think us companies or military bases . then find the common local search engine Google is getting more universal but not completely . the just enter the books title author and copyright or print date if you have it. Another thing is look for medium sized towns in rural areas and see if it has a bookstore most do. Sometimes figuring out what they call a bookstore is interesting. Also look for shops that sell historical crap not the high priced stuff. Horse or livestock related stores. Second hand stores bazaars and sometimes auction houses. I'm sure I'm missing a few. Then find their web site and search. Start with English speaking countries or those where its a common second language. Also lots of places have a central site where booksellers trade or sell to each other. Sometimes you have to buy a whole box to get the volume you want. But I find them sometimes interesting. If not good mess free fire starters . good luck just leave a few for me!
Russia has some real interesting hunting books but most are printed in Russian. I just stumble around looking for there titles and then hope like hell someone has uploaded them online or digitized them then run them through a translation app.

Bar bar 2/peg leg--
Either of you have any Carl Johnson, Leo Dollins or Elmer Goble titles? I have never found these but have just about everything else on the list. Also looking for a dust jacket for my copy of Obe Cory's The Locating Tree Dog. I've got extra Cory, Mathes, Kibler etc and would buy or trade if possible

Some books are hard to find. But I sure don't know if I would hold out for dust jackets!
The national sporting library in va has a wide range of titles mostly higher brow fox hunter types but interesting anyway.

Thanks for the tip-I'll have to visit the next time I am out that way. I am always looking for esoteric titles and usually try to upgrade/find dust jackets etc. that's how I wind up with doubles and too many books in general!
