Bobcats Before Breakfast was written by John Kulish with Aino Kulish. Other hound books, Tracking the Big Cats by Carl Hert, Hunting American Lions and Hunting American Bears both by Frack C. Hibben. I aslo have a copy of The American Trail Hound by Fred Streever, has a chapter in it dealing with hunting wolves with hounds,in the 1930's,but was in the east around New York. I aquired most of these books on Ebay over the years. Have all of them you guys have mentioned and a few more. Some are super hard to find. Still looking for a couple of Obe Cory books.

If you are having trouble finding books, give your local library a try. They more than likely are in a book shareing program. If you are wanting these books for your collection it wont help much, but if you just want to read it they can probably get it for you. Our library is very small, but they found slash ranch hounds, for $2.67 I got to keep it for 30 days, 3 of us read it. the librarian called the longwalkers is on the way. Good luck. Ted Smith

Hello folks!

Have been tied up in FL. by my Dad.

Ms. Rose McCurdy @ www.foxhoundspastandpresent.com turned me on to "Abe Books" on the internet. www.abebooks.com I think, go to her site and it is listed!

They have or can find the most obscure books that you can dream up. They have some 1st edition on the American Fox Hounds with articles from George Washington, only problem the price is around $130,00.00. However they have copies of "Brave" for under $50.00 and "Bobcats Before Breakfast" for under $30.00.

A Great Resource for a Book Lover!

Thanks for the tip about them online bookstores!
- Did a check and it saved me almost $130 on "Meet mr Grizzly" and "Cougar killer", compared to my local bookstore.
Found the "Ben Lilly legend" to be good reading. Not as much about his hounds as I thought/hoped, but well worth the time.

Not sure these are in my top ten, but here are some other hound books I have:
--Zane Grey; The Last of the Plainsmen; Grosset & Dunlap; NY; c. 1908, 2nd edition, 1911; 314 pp.; illus.
--Scott Hart; The Moon is Waning; Derrydale Press; NY; 1939; #333 of limited edition of 950, inscribed by the author to K. McCormick Shields (dedication is to Edward Southard Shields); 134 pp.; ilus. by Edwin Megargee. Charming tale of possum hunting with hounds in the old south (Virginia).
--MacKinlay Kantor; The Voice of Bugle Ann; The Derrydale Press; Lanham, MD; original c.1935, Derrydale edition 2001; 128 pp. Foxhunting story about Bugle Ann, sex, murder, and bloodlines.

There's a series of murder mysteries solved by a female detective, Jo Beth Sidden, and her bloodhounds, set in Georgia. The Author is Virginia Lanier. Titles are:
The House on Bloodhound Lane, A Brace of Bloodhounds, Blind Bloodhound Justice, Ten Little Bloodhounds, A Bloodhound to Die for.
Not about hunting, but these are a breezy read and the author understands her hounds.

There's also a book of memoirs by a policeman with mantrailing bloodhounds called
Manhunters! Hounds of the Big T, by Bill Tollhurst which I really enjoyed.

I love Theodore Roosevelt's hunting stories, some of which include hounds, especially The Wilderness Hunter

Ralph Flowers, The Education of a Bear Hunter is a great read, although light on hound hunting. He does get around to using hounds eventually.

Wilderness Patchwork, about the Patch line of beagles in the Adirondacks, by

Black River Bolly. Clyde Bounds' memoir of his bear hunts with his Plott, Bolly, mostly in Wisconsin.

Not many pics of the hounds in this one. It was pouring with rain all day. This was just a few random pics of a weekend up the bush
