What are your top ten hound books?

Postby jhelvik » Wed Feb 11, 2009 5:49 pm

I am looking for some more good literature to read. I would like to know what some of your favorite hound books are. I am talking about books that are read for enjoyment not so much training. What is your top 10 (or 5 if you can't think of 10).

Hey thanks catdogs,

Is that the same Walt Earl that hunts lions in the Snowies south of Lewistown, MT?

I have only read a couple of the books you listed. I will have to look into finding some of those books. Sometimes they are difficult to find.

I've only read 2 of those, just curious though - Does anyone know where you can buy books like these? I know I looked into it several years ago and it was hard cause a lot of them are out of print (at least the ones I was looking into) but does anyone have any suggestion on where I can get some? I don't care about original copies or anything like that, I'll take re-prints. (Although original 1st editions would be cool if you know where to get those).

Thanks to all for the info.
Ike

Full Cry usually has a book ad every year coming up on the Christmas Season; you can also google those books and track them down....

The Call of the Hounds, Meet Mr. Grizzly, Slash Ranch Hounds and Cougar Killer are all very good reads and informative for any houndsman.

Not much I can add. But as far as story telling. And A good long read. I also enjoyed "Tiger Man" By Julian Duguid. Printed in 1932. By CENTURY CO. Have no idea if it has been redone as the copy I have is A original. Is A good read of just under three hundred pages.

General Red by Ozzie Washburn- In my opinion was a very good read. Hard to find as the copyright is 1962.

Good luck, I've been looking for Brave for a while - I'd pay a lot of money for that book right now (well, next pay check rather, haha)

I will put in the my list other two:

Another good one very difficult to find Tigrero of Sasha Siemel

And for training, that you didn´t ask: Walk with Wick Volume I and II
