Caught our third bear today and my 13 year old son harvested his first! 31 degrees with a little dusting of snow when we turned out. Dogs went 3 miles and got him up after a bit of walking him in circles for an hour. 2 mile hike into the tree. Just measured him in the driveway and he went 6'4 my boy is very pleased.

What is considered normal or average? I’m for sure not up to speed on bear specs. Had a couple buddies get a bear a few days ago that was 417#. It looked big in the pics and in the tree to me.

I haven't personally killed a lot of bears, only 2 and both combined i don't think would measure up to this one. I think average would be 14-16 for a decent boar but thats just a guess. The first bear we harvested measure 18 1/2 and it was the biggest one I'd seen at that time. As far as I've found my sons will be the third biggest entered from montana in the boone and crocket book.
