I wouldn't get one from HighCountry. The one I have from Don is a big, slow, gutless cripple. He has malformed toes and will lame-up if hunted more than twice per week. Hard headed too. I don't like dogs that constantly have to be slapped on the head because there purposely doing the wrong thing. Oh, and they ain't cheap, I paid 1450.00 (with shipping). Take care, Mike B.

The terriers I have seen (own a JRT) tend to nip at or fight with other dogs bad. My JRT is the gamiest dog I have owned, and will run a track, just silent, and only out but so far (2-300 yards).

I would love to see a pack of terriers or even a single terrier on a bear.

I ended up getting mine from John Houben in West Virginia
, he is a house dog. He runs with the pack can run hot tracks to medium hot tracks alone or lead the pack(garmin)...line bred cajun. He sheds like crazy. He is tough not stupid gritty(yet)but plenty gritty. He hasn't given me any trouble with fighting...but I have never brought him out of state or anything. He hunts with me locally and rides shotgun while I bait in stuff..very fast and very smart...handles like a yo yo....

I just picked up a pup from Matt Thom. He has a very
good personality. I got him to give to my boys for Christmas.
So I haven't done a hole lot with him yet. But I have high
hopes just because of his personality. I can tell that he
isn't going to coward to anything or anyone. Loves to run
up the the bigger hounds and play. I think he is going to
be exactly what I was looking for. Something to run with
my hounds that will put a little more pressure on the bear
to put him up a little quicker. But again the main key for
me is getting him on enough bears that he knows what
to do.
Lots of training left to do as he is only 9 weeks old.
I will try to keep posting on here so people can learn
the pros and cons that I experience with a pure bread
Airedale.

I have two Airedales a male and female both of which have pulled hair on bear and will stay on the tree. I hunt with a friend who runs a Plott pack (Shamrock breeding) this is my first year on bear with these Airedales and they are getting better each time out.
I like my female the best as she is a little bit less aggressive than the male he also is more possessive on dead game which we are working on. We have had no trouble with
fighting and it is nice to walk out of the woods with out having to lead them. They are not
a cold nosed dog but if cut in once a track is set they will be mixed right in with the pack
and will help put some heat on your bear race. My hunting buddy decided I needed a start
dog for my pack so he gave me a female plott pup this fall to raise, I also have another
female Airedale pup (born 12/10) coming to raise up together,can't hardly stand waiting
for next training season. Wanted to try them on bobcats this winter but the better half
wants to go to SW for the winter so that will have to wait.

The only experience I have with Airdales is when I was a kid. My Dad had July and Walker wolfhounds. We had a friend with a big male he ran with his pack. Dad crossed a couple of bitches on him and they were coyote catching machines. Crosses on these half breeds never worked. Then we started crossing on a different male and that didn't work either. But that first cross was awsome.
