Nice hogs. Is it difficult for you to locate good dogs over there? Wouldn't think it would be a big market? Here in Texas, there's a hog dog in every yard.

And did I understand you right, each hog requires a $21.34 tag?

Plenty of dogs here and yes the tags are kinda silly.

No one would hunt them legally here if we had to pay that for each hog. We'd really be overrun with them. As it is, if you are on private land, you don't even need a hunting license. Not too many rules, just kill/catch 'em all. A lot of people do catch and haul to market, but regardless, it's about reducing the population.
They are a nuisance, not a game animal here. My crew & I catch appoximately 100 a year, the ranch foreman shoots another 400 from the helicopter, and deer hunters take another 30 during deer season. Multiply that times $21 and yikes, that's $11,130
I'll stay in Texas. :)

There used to be no hogs in the northern part of the state around the Metroplex, now, like everywhere else in the country, the hogs are plentiful. I can't tell you where to go or who to hook up with, haven't lived there in 30 years.
Try easttexashogdoggers website, probably get the info you need there?
Good luck!

Cali hogs!

Postby Fitz » Sun Feb 01, 2015 1:18 pm

We went out yesterday morning and I hunted my young dog by his self for the first time. He didn't let me down! He bayed up a big boar. Turns out it's the same one that bluff/charged me about 8 months ago. I shot him in the left front leg with my .45

Hey Fitz, good to see your catahoula curs in action, nice sized boar too. Cheers for posting... just shows how tough them hogs are, he was surviving fine without the use of that leg by the looks of him. Must feel nice to have caught up with him again though.
