kennel winter cover

Postby outlaw13 » Thu Oct 20, 2011 10:34 pm

I was just wondering what anyone does or would do if they had a chain link kennel that was 12 x 18 and how would they cover the top during winter. Now winter for me is harsh and it can easily snow 2-3 ft a night and i accumulate a lot of snow over time and i am just worried about the dogs packing down the snow and it getting a good enough pack for them to jump out. Just wondering if anyone else has had problems like this.

I would make a tilted wood roof and cover it with metal myself. Plastic would get you buy but metal is nice.

Basicly a pole barn lean to.

Outlaw let me know how that works I have been thinking about what I can use as well when I move the family and hounds up to Chester this winter. I seen last yr they had 23 feet of snow here over the winter. Its going to be a big change from Red Bluff thats for sure.

kennel winter cover

Postby houndawg100 » Tue Oct 25, 2011 8:05 pm

If you get 2-3 feet of snow at a time. I say ur taking a heck of a risk not putting up a lean to with a metal roof. I live in the snow belt if the Upper Peninsula. It won't take much to collapse a cheap cover.

ive built a lean to style top for mine. i used the pvc plastic first and it only held up for about 3 years. i put shingles on it this year. course if we get 2" of snow its alot. put the plastic just didnt hold up well. i will try and get a pic of my kennel top tonight for you, but i highly recommend using something else besides the plastic for roofing. metal could have been used for just a few dollars more.
