Hello fellow houndsmen and women-
I grew up in the late 60's and early 70's hunting with Graves Evans and Blackie Woods. My grandfather's best friends were Rube Evans and Joe Evans. My family and the Evans go way back.
Unfortunately, during those times I was too young and dumb to know what I was seeing and experiencing. When you are an adolescent, you think, "Well this isn't so hard, just follow these barking dogs until they catch the lion."
Fast forward forty years later and I now realize what an opportunity I missed by not paying attention. Of course that is part of the definition of being a teenager.
Now I am trying to get my own pack going with dogs I've acquired from Riley Miller and Billy Pat McKinney. It has been a frustrating struggle to say the least, but I enjoy the challenge and learning experience.
Enlightened training tips for someone starting from scratch would be most appreciated.

Good to have you on here. Do I understand you correctly that you have dogs from riley miller? If so I'd be interested in hearing about them or seeing pictures.

Ron,
Good to hear from you, and you absolutely grew up around some of the best ever bare ground hunters. I was fortunate enough to meet Graves in Truth or Consequences, NM not long before he died. I never met Blackie but did talk to him thru and introduction from my old friend Wiley Carroll in Nevada. Sold Riley a few dogs years back and he is one fine man. When Billy Pat was Wildlife Mgr. & lion hunter at Black Gap in the Big Bend country we use to correspond a good deal. There again I got to know him thru and introduction from Wiley. He gave me a lot of useful tips when I was cutting my teeth in dirt hunting.
Did you know the Espy's down that way?
