Re: Idaho UKC copetition coon hunts
If you read this from the Idaho Hunting regs, I'm not sure you need a hound permit to pursue coons, as long as no bear or lion season is open. Only if you harvest a coon? What do you think?
Hound Hunter Permit
When dogs are being used to hunt black bear or mountain
lion, the following persons must have a valid hound hunter
permit and a black bear or mountain lion tag for the current
year in possession:
• Anyone who owns pursuit dogs.
• Anyone having control of dogs owned by another
person.
• Anyone who harvests a black bear, mountain lion,
bobcat, raccoon, or fox with the use of dogs. Except,
clients of licensed outfitters are not required to have a
hound hunter permit.

Re: Idaho UKC copetition coon hunts
Resent changes in the classification of raccoons in Idaho has created conflicts with in the law. The law states you do not need a permit for predatory wildlife and it specificly states that you do need a permit for raccoons. This conflict makes these laws most likely unenforceable but I would expect to get ticketed if checked by a game warden. We can hunt coons regardless of any season going but it must be on public land or with written permission in hand from the private landowner.
Re: Idaho UKC copetition coon hunts
you dont need a prusuit tag to enter a KC nite hunt in UT where a $30 tag is required other wise to chase coons from the dumpster at Hawns. Like I said I dont think theres ever been enough intrest in a KC nite hunt in ID to even get the application from Bosie for a field trial premit.

Re: Idaho UKC copetition coon hunts
I will continue to dig into this and continue to work with the proper people, so we can start getting comp hunts going. All of you have valid points, all of which i will bring up in my research and in my talks with the IF&G and DOW services.
Thanks Again-

Re: Idaho UKC competition coon hunts
There is a proposal by an IDFG official to allow nonresidents to participate in sanctioned nite hunts under a permit system in which no firearms are used and no racoons are killed such as in a UKC event. We need to voice our support. Idaho hunters PM me and I will return information on who to contact with your support.

It's looking like there is a good chance we will get the permit system. They may require non-residents to purchase a small game liscence. The details are still being worked out and we will need some support.

If you already have a biggame lisence you will not need to buy another lisence.

Proposal went to the IDFG Commision in June. It sounds promising.

Sounds like the process is grinding through. We might be able to have open competitions in the future.
