A few years back they were having " Iron Dog" Field Trial/bear drag/treeing contest/Water race in Oregon, where the dogs earned points from each event and the top point dogs were given trophys, I went to the last 2 they had in 05 and 06 they had great turn out for the 2 that I went to, I know with our field trials here in California a lot of the houndsmen come because of the money we Garantee ($800.00 for our small races and $2000.00 for our end of year race) I know only a few walk away with any money but every dog has a chance. For a big race over a 3 day week end I'd make the drive.

i did forget to mention that the big bear drag and pack races would be $$$pot i just dont know how to do it because i dont really want to turn out 60 dogs at once thought about splitting into heats and take first line first tree and doing final next day to give dogs a rest also defenatly look into $$ for regular field trial drags ant tree contest just do a trophy thing for kids bench show also raffle items aint going to be from the family dollar store they are going to be dog boxes, dog food guns and alot more stuff now in order to pay for everything the money events will be a % split to winner % to club most likely 80-20 any ideas will be considered

thanks for any input

For our bear race's we have gone both ways, in 2010 we had a $1000.00 bear race with 83 dogs entered, the race was about 7.5-8 miles (to long) and only 9 dogs came it to the tree and only one of them made stakes and won it all, this year we made it a 80% pay back (the club kept 20%) and split the 80% between the 1st & 2nd tree's and 1st & 2nd lines we ran 2 race's one Friday and one Saturday (if you entered on Friday you could not run on Saturday) we had about 30 dogs entered each day and it went pretty good, the big bear race's work out pretty good as long as the track isn't to long, this years race was about 3.5-4 miles long and thats worked out pretty good with most all the dogs making the tree, most guys seem happy if there dogs just making it to the tree.

Definitely keep us updated on trials if out of state can compete. I don't like the trial part all that much but had fun visiting new people last year at the couple I went to.

The Snake River Coonhunters Club will be having field trials, treeing contests, and nite hunt (Idaho liscense and hound permit required for nite hunt only) near Lewiston, Idaho.

If anyone is interested in a bear drag/race please PM me. We would do some if there is enough interest. I will update with location and cost of each event ASAP. All coonhounds are welcome. We will also have on site information on the American Coon Hunters Association. We are planning to have ACHA and UKC sanctioned events in the near future.

Feel free to contact me at 208-816-4245 for more information about this event or the Snake River Coonhunters Club.
