Re: confused on non resident hunting
You put into a draw for the non-res hound permit. I think they only issue 70 permits a year to non res or something like that.

Re: confused on non resident hunting
Ok so I figured out if I'm with a residnet that has a hound permit they can run my dogs for me and I can be there with him, but I can't shoot a big game animal, so my question is, do you have to buy the hunting lisence wich. Or can a buy just a small game license or do I have to buy the hunting lience in order to get the small game lisences, thanks for the help everyone bye the way I appericate it

Re: confused on non resident hunting
houndcrazy not to be mean but read the idaho regulations, you cannot own or be in control of a hound, even if your with a resident! You can buy a tag and license but cannot use hounds without a permit unless your with a certified idaho guide! So this means unless you get drawn for a hound permit you basically cannot run your hounds in idaho!

Re: confused on non resident hunting
Ok gotcha what part of the reg is it in, just so I can read it, because I just read the hound hunting part on page 68 and the only thing it says about no residents is thatt they only give out 70 permits a year, but doesn't say I can't own or control one. But the residnet part says they can get ahound permit and be in control of some one elses dogs. and I didn't think you was being me just helpin me out

Re: confused on non resident hunting
There are area's a nonresident can buy a tag and hound permit but they are all wolf infested and there are not many roads. Not sure where to look it up either. I know the Lochsa and Selway river units are this way. Might be best to just call the regional office 208-799-1050. Beware most gamers in this state think your guilty of something and you have to prove yourself innucent.

It says on page 68 under hound permit.
When dogs are being used to hunt black bear or mountain lions, the following persons MUST have a valid hound hunter permit and a black bear or mountain lion tag for the current year in possesion:
ANYONE that owns persuit dogs.
ANYONE having control of dogs owned by another person.
ANYONE who harvests a blackbear, mountain lion, bobcat, raccoon, or a fox with the use of dogs. EXCEPT, clients of licensed outfitters are not required to have a hound permit.

Re: confused on non resident hunting
So does thatt mean I do not need a hound permit as long as I just go after bobcat and do not harvest one, because it says I only need one to pursue balck bear and mountain lion, and then it only talks about that you need one for HARVESTING The animals you listed, and I'm assuming that when it says for some one tthat owns pursuit dogs, prior to that it only talked about black bear and mountain lion and said nothing about bobcat, thanks just courious,

I am sure the first Idaho game warden that sees you with out of state truck tags and a hound box will be glad to let you know the laws and how they apply to you.
