Don't skin a skunk I did when I was a kid and it was a miserable experience! If your trapping coons use dog proof traps that will keep you from getting skunks. With foot traps I do ground sets and set the pan at a higher tension that way when Fox and coyotes dig them up they go off but a skunk will dig them up but usually won't set them off. Hope that helps

For the smell inject them with acetone, if your going for coons I use dog food with jam. I have also had plenty of skunks in coon cuffs.

I am a kid and I got mad at one because I walked up on it and was then determined to skin it and dearly regretted it later... don't recommend it

If you tie it to something and throw it in a creek with good moving water for a day or more It'll take a lot if the smell away.

Trapping and dispatching skunks is no big deal. Get you a syringe pole and inject it behind the front shoulder into the lungs with Acetone and it'll die with no smell. Then use a couple of hemostats to clamp off the nipples on the scent sacs. Carefully skin around the sacs which are located on either side of the vent hole. Great looking fur and the skunk essence can be sold for $15 to $20 an ounce. You just stick a needle in the sacs and withdraw the essence, no mess, no fuss, no smell. Do it a couple of times and you'll look forward to catching them. $25 a skunk is not bad in today's fur market. Lots of videos on YouTube show you exactly how to do it.

No way of keeping skunks out of your traps. It's just one of the hazards. Taking a few out helps the bird population and as stated by previous post reply nice fur and you can harvest the glands. Make sure you do it outside!! Once you get rid of the skunks you can target your money fur. I dispatch mine by drowning if I am near water and am using my cage traps. Skunk won't spray unless he can lift his tail.

Dog proof coon traps will catch plenty of skunks and house cats.
