Sorry to hear that Joe! I think I’ve cried more over good dogs than good people. Its just plain hard to understand until you’ve had a good one!

Man I hate to hear of someone losing a good dog. About a month ago maybe a little more, I was literally 5-6 foot from a boar hog that took a super nice 2yr old dog of a young hunting buddie’s out. I felt horrible and it still bothers me. I gave him that dog as a weanliing. He afforded the pup every opportunity to make a hog dog and the dog did take advantage of it. He was gonna be a pretty special 3-4 yr old but this ole rank boar stopped it. It’s a heart breaker for sure.

Finished up guiding deer and elk hunters Thursday, hunting was hard with the warm temps and no snow. But we managed to harvest some nice animals. Brought home 45 pounds of elk hearts and livers for the dogs. Managed to fill my own freezer the last day of guiding, shot 2 cow elk so I had more time to focus on the kid getting an opportunity at something. Lion season is 11 days away and it sure doesn't feel like it. Highs are in the high 40's to low 50's, might be a tough start to the season but that won't stop me from trying lol

Congrats on the successful hunting season and good luck with the lions! I have been hunting as much as I can and have had zero luck. I’m just not finding the fresh side of tracks. I keep finding several old day tracks or rained out tracks. But you can’t tree them from the couch, so I’m getting my plumpy butt out there lol.

Yes sir! I haven’t seen a sole off the highway since the snow melted. I went out yesterday morning and the mountain range was full. Saw a dude looking for tracks on a SXS, a toyota truck and tracks from 2 more rigs. I didn’t see a track but put the dogs out on a bobcat with no luck. I think it holed up in some rocks a mile up the ridge. I wasn’t expecting much for their first track along with the snowmelt. Saw tons of deer sign and saw 8 head which is really cool. One doe had twins and two other does had singles. Usually I only see a couple tracks but I think the lions got hammered last year in that range. I know I took a big tom out of there last season and the outfitters were hitting it hard after that.

Well I pulled the trigger Friday on a new 300i and tt25 collars. Double u had it shipped out the same day! Got all the new collars added in last night and getting everything charged up. Haven't taken it out yet but a few things I've noticed so far is seems the more they charge the less we get. No extra antenna for the collars or the handheld anymore, the new charging cables are maybe 12 inches long and came with no 110 plug in just a USB end. I'm very hopeful that they fixed everything I absolutely hate about the 200i ,most importantly the terrible slowness of the map screen. Calling for snow tonight but we shall see.

I’m sure you didn’t get all those extra antennas and cords because of how cheap they sold it to you.

Hope yall had a wonderful holiday! Took an afternoon hike into some high country and jumped a tom and female lion out of some deadfall, I never saw them but boy the tracks were hot!! Never cut a single deer track up there. Those lions looked to have come down out of mountain goat country. 6 days till season starts and there's only snow in a few way high places.

Man, you’ve got the luck!
I’m jealous lol. I have been going out since August and have only found one track fresh enough for the dogs to open on. Then it got too hot and I had to call them off. I hunted all day in the snow today and couldn’t find a track

Damn, I think I'd get some beagles and chase rabbits if it took that long to find a lion for me hahaha. But if our wonderful fish wildlife and parks commission gets their way and houndsmen actually fill these outrageous quotas they set this year it will shortly be that exact way here.

Yeah, we have a low population due to the arid climate. I have to drive minimum of an hour to get to a decent place to hunt and each mountain range is a 30-60 minute drive between them. I have a long ways to drive, plus crappy roads once I do start hunting and fuel is expensive lol. All the roads are horribly washed out now. I’m constantly driving through 2-3 foot deep washes in the roads.

What are they try to do up there now???

They voted for a 40 percent reduction in lion population even though no biologists supported it ,and there was way more people that publicly commented against it. They said they need to kill 86 percent of the lions(which they have no clue how many there actually are) for 6 years to get there mission accomplished. At the same time in my area they are trying to wipe out the whitetails and mule deer to fight cwd, I asked how it makes sense to kill lions that kill the deer they want dead! I know of one unit that had a quota of 12 lions, only 3 toms and 2 females were killed last year so they raised it to allow something like 17 females and 10 toms....just doesn't add up to me!
