Dogs and wolves

Has anyone had there dogs go after wolf tracks ?

A good friend of mine had an awesome bear dog that would strike wolves off the box. I kept telling him his dog was striking wolves and he argued with me. The dog is now dead, he got killed by wolves.

Here in Wisconsin I've seen dogs trash on wolves several times.

Is the end result always the death of the hound or do the wolves turn and run sometimes ?
