Fun run!

Last night I took boozer out late, it was after midnight on the first drop. I dropped him near the river first and he treed a lay up right away, than trailed one a ways and treed that one. After that I roaded him down a road that goes right next to a corn field. We go down about half way and he hit a track, didn't open up but I knew he hit one! He goes to the opposite side of the cornfield about fifty yards and than paralleled the road for a bit, than turns around and runs fast back the way he came. I'm sitting in my truck with the lights on and about that time the fastest coon blur ever, flies by me and hurdles into the cornfield! Boozer was right on him and hit the field runnin! Funny thing is he didn't open up til he hit the corn? Anyway, he ran a fairly open race with maybe 6 or 7 nice bawls on the track for just under 400 yards and located! The best part! I was able to drive right to the tree! Fun night!

Yes, he's a pup I got from mark. His dad is cuz and his mom is baby girl. He's well started on coon, I can't wait for cat season to start and see how he likes them. How and what do your dogs hunt? What are they out of?
Thanks, Joe.

Well done! We need to get out again, all these archery tags are cutting into dog time.

Couldn't make it tonight, going to head up to Nebraska and chase some whitetails Wed-Sun. After that I'm going to take a few weeks off and do some dog work and fill the WY doe lope tags.

My finished dog is a a male Gunnar is out of "Northwoods Yankee" one of Tom Solberg's old studs which would be an extended cousin to Cuz. My other male and still in training is Moose who is out of dark timber Moose "Da Moose" who is co-owned by Buck Ratliffe/Tom Solberg but resides in Virginia. They are good dogs. Getting antsy for season! I finally feel confident saying Gunnar is a balls to the wall coondog and a finished hound as far as coons go. He has been on a few lions but has been a while. Plan to run him on a few this winter along with Moose.

Looks like you've got a full slate adam! Northwoods, I've heard da moose throws some nice dogs. Cuz is actually Northwood Yankees son. Do you do any comp hunting? I've never been to one but have been thinking about trying it out. I don't know if boozer would be good at it or not. He doesn't always strike right away. He likes to run silent til he's right on em! But he is an honest strike dog and when he trees there's a coon! He needs to improve on tracking (he likes to run with his head up too much I think) as he'll strike tracks and not find the end sometimes. We'll see how he finishes out but for my first crack at raising a pup I'm real happy with him.

Lil Moose is coming along. He has all the tools to make a great coon dog. He is still a young hound and learning how to use those tools. It has been fun watching him develop. Gunnar sounds exactly like Boozer. Does not open or tree until he is sure!! That is a great thing if you ask me. I started comps last year and they are a blast. I took Gunnar to his first comp at the RQE in Oregon last winter and the first night two other hounds opened early, nothing from Gunnar. They tracked and tracked and finally stopped and treed. The two other hounds a walker and a plott were blowing the top off the tree. I could here gunnar whining like he did when he was a pup about to open but never opened. Tree time ran out and it was slick!! I was so proud he stood there while those dogs were going ballistic and he didn't open. I knew I could trust him. No coons were treed that night, He never let out a peep. The next night 100 yards after casting he blew up and there was no doubt. he won his cast and qualified for the world championship. Boozer will only get better and more refined with your work. I would love to see him sometime!!
