!!! The Ultimate Bobcat Dog: Part 2.0 !!!
Here we are 5 years later and I present to you, the first "complete" litter of UBD pups. There's 10 so I shouldn't be short on choices. There are some interesting colors which makes it more fun. I'm pretty excited despite the long wait.
Now, let's see if I can pick the right pups and if some of the other theories talked about here pan out. There will be plenty to learn, so come on, let's get going!

I have been following for awhile now. I'm excited to see them grow and see how things turn out. By the way, are any of them for sale?

Yes. It's risky but I'm not in the position to be able to raise/train all ten myself.

Re: !!! The Ultimate Bobcat Dog: Part 2.0 !!!
Not keeping the whole litter or at the least having the remaining littermates in the hands of people with the same goals and keeping some breeding rights is going to add many more years to the last 5. But I’m sure you all ready know that, hopefully you will hang on to them for as long as you can and slowly weed through them. Cold hard truth of development of a line or even maintaining one is not for the faint of heart. A old well know cat hunter once told me 30yrs ago when I was hunting his line of dogs and had a litter, I asked him what I should sell the remaining pups for ? And he told me to sell them for what they are worth which would be nothing at weaning. That I’d be money ahead to keep them close and in the right hands for future breeding. Makes a lot more sense to me now then it did in my 20’s. I don’t think many understand how much work and time it takes to do what your doing wish you the best in it Dan. Sure would cut time down if you had someone helping you.

Re: !!! The Ultimate Bobcat Dog: Part 2.0 !!!
I wish it were the case that I could keep them all. I knew long ago that an experimental litter like this would have little interest until after they were catching and tracking well, even with as much talking as what gets done with this project. But, after all, it's just talk at this point. I don't know many hard hunters that are into anything but results, so I'm not going to get my hopes up.
I have quite a yard full from the build up coming into this. I've already sold several dogs that I would not have if I was not expecting these pups to come. I'm going to cut the yard WAY back before Christmas and just see if I can keep more. There's always going to be some pups that don't have the physical build to compete with some other pups and I'll start there as I cull down.
I would like to double the number I've got in my head now but that depends on how things go. I think that I'm only going to keep a pair of the Lep x July pups I have to run with the UBD pups. We'll see how it all pans out. I'm flexable and have my eye on the prize so who knows, I may pull off raising quite a few.
The only thing I'm trying not to give up is my near monopoly on the Jug x Susie line of Leps. There are only a couple of people that can make them without any other blood mixed in. I just can't get myself to leave that behind.
I'm thinking on it, you can bet on that at least.

Re: !!! The Ultimate Bobcat Dog: Part 2.0 !!!
All eyes open and all ten pups alive and well. Vicki has split the litter between the two houses she has available to her in their pen. She has them split like this:
House 1- 4 merle pups and 1 b&t pup.
House 2- 5 solid colored pups, both black and brown pups.
I haven't figured out what she is doing besides the obvious possibility that she is just milking half of them at a time. I'm going to keep watching and try and find out her motives. Kind of interesting though.

Re: !!! The Ultimate Bobcat Dog: Part 2.0 !!!
Each of the parents have caught bobcats by themselves. I don't have any pictures of either of them in action. I don't take pictures that prove they are anything more than pets. I believe I have three pictures total, of any of my dogs under a tree. It never does cross my mind to take them until it's to late.

Dan; We all know the limitations of the information that names on a pedigree provide but still I would find it very interesting to see the background on the sire and dam or as much as you would like to share. Thanks.
