Well 3 of those red dogs are little pups just learning whats what! There are plenty of spots to hunt that are away from people, there are also spots where happy hikers pop up around every corner with their fat muts in tow... My area is starting to get like that, I just hunt early morning and weekdays to avoid most of the crowd. I let all the grey fox go they are not worth much $20 tops, a good bobcat though $300-500 that will feed the dogs a while.

I've only ever hunted greys in llaces where their population has been relatively low at best. I search them out and protect them when I find them. I also do my best to remove any competition from their area and I've even fed them during partuclarly tough winter stretches to keep them from leaving or starving. They have a diffucult time of it around here when we get hard crust on the snow and it becomes sifficult to hunt mice in the snow.

I've put in more effort to look after the lowly grey fox than I have for any bobcats, which is odd when I think about it, because I run cats much more often. It shows you how much I like running them though. I get a real kick out of those fox.

I used to raise a line of mixed up little terriers just for greys. Back around '05, my city wife went back to the city and Money was pretty tight. At the time I had just been layed off and couldn't afford to drive the 2 hours to the first good cat hunting so I started swithing my dogs on to grey fox in the winters. No one pursued them near where I lived and their scarcity had a little to do with that. There was a pocket of greys about every 10 miles or so and I found most of those pockets over area of about 20 x 50 miles. I started doing pretty decent on catching towards the second winter of running them but went back to cat hunting after my place sold and I could live a little cheaper.

To go to any place that has a really good grey fox population is going to be a real treat. I still like seeing a big bobcat in a tree but I'm going to be very excited to get after those fox. I've had a thing for fox since I was a little kid and if I got to pick my Indian spirit guide, it would surely be a fox. I don't think you get to pick those things though. I was always under the impression they had to pick you.

Down to seven of the ten. Three more to go. Four will stay. Had to get rid of the black dog unfortunately. He was a top contender but he's sure going to like it where he's going.

Pups are down to 6 here. Another one is heading to MN. Great feedback from the folks that have some of this litter. I've already got UBD 2.1 in my head and plans to make it. This one will take me a few years to put together but it's a slight twist on the first litter. Sure wish I had the resources that Lutz Heck had when he developed the Jagdterrier. At one point he had over 750 individuals in his state funded kennel, just prior to WWII...and plenty of hands to hunt test. One can dream...

Goose- I' e made a few mistakes with these projects. The first big one was to keep all of the Lep females I produced for about a decade. Now, if I give them up to work soley on the UBD project, there won't be any there to buy back into.

On this project (UBD) I've been hunting almost entirely by myself, which is always how I prefer to train. There isn't anyone aside from David and two other people that have watched my dogs go. My posse just doesn't exist...my fault.

Looking at it all gives me some respect for the German's way of organizing things with written standards and a lot of showing off. That's just no me though.

It's a fun process and I'll probably enjoy it more the longer it takes, to be honest, though I would prefer to have it done. As soon as it is, I'm sure I'll either have something else lined up or be dead.

Well, here I am in AZ. Made the trip limping in but we're here. This place is crazy. Met some fine people already and I'm taking that as a good sign. I arrived here with one UBD dog, that's Ole. In addition, I have one Lep, one Lep x July, one Lurcher, one Stag and a BC x Mtn. Cur. I haven't had such a small pack since about the year 2000.

What I do have left are my very favorite dogs. I probably got rid of several that'll haunt me but, it seemed like the right way to go, given all of the factors.

When the temps. come down just a little more I'll start running the dogs here and have some further news on the UBD end of things. Ole is already making me feel like I made the right pick and I'm going to attempt to catch bobcats here in a way that I don't think anyone had every tried. I'm going to keep pretty quiet about my methods until I can post a picture of a big pile of bobcats. It'll all be legal, but I've checked and checked and can't find a soul that has even heard of anyone trying it the way I'm about to. If this works I'm going to sell tickets. j/k

Anyhow, I've got some good news on a related cross. When I made the UBD litter last year, I also made two Lep x July litters to go with it. I figured that some of those pups would be a slam dunk. After all, the Leps I had were doing a good job and the only thing I would have changed about them would have been physical ability...endurance and build. Well, if this male I kept out of those litters is any indication, I think I knocked it out of the park with him. His name is Darky, short for The Dark Night. Not wildly creative, but that's what I'm calling him. When I get some time, I'll load a couple of pictures here of Ole and Darky. They're quite a pair and share the same sire, Kuby.

It good to have ideas and try different things to make things easier or better, BUT the dog like the mouse trap has already been invented. The person who catches the most mice sets the trap more than most people. Go anywhere in the US of A and start looking for dogs and you will find them at a house where the man hunts a lots and has learned what it takes for him to catch a specific game animal. It very unlikely you can breed an easy fix into making a good pack of hunting dogs, but I know for sure you can hunt a pack of dogs to being good. It all about the man who owns the dogs not the man that bred them and there parents. BUT,DREAM ON !!!

I love these ass hats and keyboard warriors shit talking people they know nothing about. I’ve met some people on the forum that you think are amazing and really write some good shit and then you meet them and they can’t find their ass from a hole in the ground. If you guys don’t like what he’s doing or writing keep it to yourself maybe go out and do some actual hunting. And somebody please take an English class or run spellcheck before you comment.
