Postby Lorven88 » Fri Sep 21, 2018 8:04 am

Hello, is there anyone who chases the Pinemarten with their plot dogs?

I would like to run pine marten and fisher but it is not legal to pursue them with hounds in Minnesota.
A good dog hunts wherever he's set down.

With shock collars it is easy to teach most hounds not to run off game.

In Russia and Scandinavian countries they raise and breed dogs for treeing Martin (sable). There are some very interesting videos out there from these places. I am not sure why it is illegal to hunt them with dogs in states that I know of.

Would be a lot like squirrel hunting with a dog. A hotter nosed dog like a laika, cur or fiest. Something that can wind scent pretty good and timber when it starts jumping from tree to tree. David is right about the Russians, there's some YouTube video that are impressive.

Not sure about pine Martin but the hounds I've seen squirrel hunt made a lot more den trees. Maybe too cold of nose and grubbing out old tracks I'm not sure I have laikas and they're nothing like a hound.

If u see 1 cross the road, cut a dog loose on it and try and try again. Best of luck to ya lorven88.
