Beagles

Postby jacobklein2008 » Fri Jan 02, 2015 12:26 am

This past year I got two beagle pups that are now 13 months old one of which had to be culled, and then bought a 5 year old male beagle as well as a 2 year old female beagle, this past week I have been running them with a 3 year old jack Russell terrier of mine and today they ran their fourth coyote ( probably 8th if you count the ones that they lost after a half an hour). It seems as though they get better every time they go out, just wondering if anyone else has been running beagles for coyote much.

Rick is correct. Here's a little bit of that guys recent add of pups for sale. He is in Ohio.

"I have 9- 7 week old beagle puppies. 5 of them are already spoken for, so I have 4 for sale. 3 males and 1 female are available. The parents are responsible for 92 coyotes last year and 85 coyotes the year before. These pups are $150 each. No papers. Wormed, shots, and dew claws removed. If you have ever thought of trying beagles on coyotes, this is a perfect opportunity. These pups are from proven stock and a proven cross."

We have killed 4 of them this year with the beagles, we need some better weather or there'd have been more than that killed with them, we even used them to get some bigger hounds started on coyote because they don't overrun the track as much
, move slower, and make a lot more noise so the newer dogs get excited and don't get left behind.

I'd like to get a jagd terrier or two down the road, as well as cross one of the beagles with the jack Russell terrier and see what comes from that.

Beagles do indeed work for coyotes, we got 2 beagles but we use them for bird hunting.

Im from the Scottish border, and the local lads use beagles for red fox hunting, the local beagle packs hunt brown hares on the hill but their hounds riot on fox now and then,. beagles love bigger game, even boar. I have no doubts what so ever folk are hunting yotes with them successfully. The thing about beagles is they wont cover very rough ground like a foxhound will, so the race can be slower, great if your a gun club, or want to keep up on foot with the hunt.

maybe this is a crazy ? and I know next to nothing about coyote hunting with dogs the only time was with walker dogs but wound it not be to big of a chance of a beagles getting hurt or killed form what little I know a coyote can put up a good fight and I would be thinking a beagle would get killed the first time a coyote stop to fight but I would love to know if I am wrong

as long as there are 2 or more beagles on the yotes, there is generally never any problems. However if there was one, then yeah the beagle would probably get ripped to shreds.

I have never ran coyotes with Beagles, however can recall years ago, having two or three 60 or more pound walkers ran back to me by coyotes, in the spring, more than once. Al
