If i fix them for you like i did leon's, i can stay ahead of you in my turf, and beat you to the tree Budd Dam garmins make you out of state guys look like you know how to hunt around here

Do you have to update the collars or can they just be left the way they are if they are working fine, we've never updated anything don't know if that's bad or good just wondering if you have to.

You should do the updates as they are to fix known issues with the software. I can see where the if it aint broke, don fix it theory would apply. Yet, if you ever have a problem, and need to get them fixed. You will have to update them before getting an RMA from Garmin. As perhaps the updates may fix your issue. Not always the case though.

To update, garmin has given a warranty on these collars, as they worked fine before the update, but happy to see they stepped up to the plate, and made it right.
