update problem now getting solid red light

Postby Coonsbware » Sat May 10, 2014 7:52 pm

Went to update my DC30 with my 320 and at 4% of update the light blinked then at 9% it said "problem updating dog unit software. Cycle power on the dog unit and try again".

Any idea how to fix this? Getting a solid red light now.

Thanks!

Do a reset by unplugging battery for 30 seconds.

Go down to garmin help topics forum and put solid red light on DC 30 in the search box. Buddy at Double U has a video that will walk you through clearing it. You have to reinstall the software. I had to do the same thing to mine.

When the Solid Red light is on you can not communicate to the collar to “re-install’ the software.

However with the Garmin Astro 320 you will be able to “Re-Install” the software on a collar.

If you don’t have the Dog programed into the 320 before you had the Red Light issue, you can try a different way of forcing an Update.

Here is how. Delete all the dogs from your dog list.
Add a dog to your 320 astro manually. (doesn’t really matter which Id number you select)
Now Make sure there are no other Collars on, and Update the software for the dog you just added, and the 320 should update the first dog Collar it connects to.

Try it a couple times, If not you may need to replace the GPS module on top.

I would try to do the same as the video with the GPS unplugged first and see if that works. I think it starting to sound like an issue with the GPS module on the top of the collar.

Most of the time that fixes it, But if you can't get it to work you might be sending it back for a refurbished.

Disconnect the GPS antenna and try to update following the video with a 320. If the GPS circuit check doesn't pass it will normally fail aroun7-9 percent. If it consistantly fails around that number then you might be able to replace the GPS pod on top. But you can update the software without the GPS connected and it should work.
