I have a VHF antenna rigged up. It definitely helps.4' and mounted to the truck.

Local communitactions store. They put it on with the cost of the antenna, ect. If you go to a place like that, they should be able fix you up in a hurry.

Here is what i did to improve my astro i took 12 coat hangers and wrapped them around my exhaust then then 7 more to make it thro the whole in my bed then i took 10 more and ran them thro my rig rack and one more straight up out of the center of the rig rack!! Lemme just say the warmer the exhaust the stronger the signal! :beer

I have heard of people just placing the magnet mount antenna in a back pack when walking in the mountains. They are a tough antenna and I have no problems with mine. I have the quick connects for my astro and antennas so i can unplug when talking on the radio and switch different antennas with ease.
