"Houndn'em blueticks"11/21/10blizzard cat

Post by houndnem »

on the way home from watching U.F.C. fights at my inlaws house I noticed the big yellar moon shinin on a fresh blanket of powder on the mountain. it was after midnight, but after I saw it I couldn't go to bed. called one of my buddies and by about 130 we were loaded and leavin town. it was a total blizzard out and as the snow came over the hood we creeped along at a snails pace.we figured there weren't gona be any critters out in this weather, but we kept going until sun up. I caught a glimps of a dimple in the snow that looked the right stride, but had so much snow on it I couldn't tell. I decided to put the dogs down on it and found out it was a cat. they were slowly workin the track up towards some bluffs and I was about to throw in the towel when all hell broke loose and what do you know a kitty in a tree. it was a poor looking female, we took some pics and led the dogs back to the truck. my 4 and 1/2 month old pups made the tree and were barking up it and sniffing around. my yearlin pups were in the top of the tree face barkin. I was pretty happy with them. when we got back to the truck you couldn't see our tire tracks. I'll take luck over skill any day!

Congrats on the catch!

I went out the last three days. Was hunting on half dry half snow on Friday, and the dogs did trail a kitty, with no catch. We went out again yesterday and today between the storms. Only thing I found moving yesterday were a few deer in one canyon. Only thing moving today was a few deer in another canyon, and some coyotes to the south.

Oh well, can't catch them from the couch.

Hey jerrid was just curious what your younger pups would weigh at that age? Any idea?
The fascination of hunting cougar with hounds lies in the discovery and unravelling of a complicated trail, watching an honest hound strike out on a track that has been found and read, and finally bringing the animal to bay so that you can see it for yourself---Jerry A. Lewis

the two young ones are about 20 lbs. the coolest thing for me was my dora dog (1 year)had been in the tree the whole time and when I walked up they were barking up the tree! don't know if they were barking at her or the cat, but I was happy.
