i went coon hunting one time in middle school around 13 but never got into it big til i was 17.

I was 9 or 10 when I started trailing behing my dad lion hunting.

26 when I went to my first bear tree and 28 when I got my first hound, didnt catch anything until I was 30, lots of frustration through the years but it was worth it when I finally did start catching!

my first memories were of driving around in the truck listening to the cb radio and all i could see was the tops of trees because i was too small to see out the window. and trying to hold on to leashes attached to hound dogs that were alot bigger than me.

im 36 now so thats a long time ago!

When I was a little kid (around 7 or 8 ), my uncle had bear dogs behind his shop. I thought that would be the coolest thing... to hunt something as mean as a bear! When I was a teenager, I pulled way off the interstate to relieve myself, and listened to a pack of hounds trailing something accross the desert. I couldn't have hounds untill I got out of college and left home. I started out hunting coons with 4 or 5 buddies, and having ALL of the wrecks that take place in situations like that. An uncle told me that Rick Dickerson (a childhood friend) was hunting hounds again, so I started hunting bears and lions with him. I guess I must have been 20 when I got MY first hound. The lion hunting bug bit me hard, and the rest has been a blast!

I was out to see how old most of you hounds men were when you started in this wounderful sport i am prettey young and just wounderd if i was the only one that started this young i am only in my teens thanks for all the replies.

Why, it only seems like "yesterday" when I got my first hound and I'm 45 now.

Oh wait, it was yesterday......funny how the mind f's with you when your old;)

Grew up with it. A way of life for me! Have never not owned a hound- even packed them to college with me. And I'm still married after 21 yrs.- must be some kind of record I would think? Gotta love them dogs!

I was born into it. I am a 4th generation hound man. Maybe farther back than that but my brother has not been able to trace Dads family farther back than the 1850's when they had a big plantation in Alabama. Dads 93 and had coon hounds till he got too old to walk far, then he got running dogs and started chasing coyotes. He remembers when there was wolves in southern OK. and north Tx. along the Red River where we live.

Went on first coon hunt when i was 16, then been bear hunting since then with my boyfriends dad's dogs till i can get my own, I'm now 18. I was addicted to it the first time and now iv'e been out bear hunting every day i can without school being in the way.
