LIFE INSURANCE ON HOUNDS?

Post by SHADOWHUNTER »

SO NOW THAT I OPENED THE TOPIC OF DOG VALUES, DOES ANYONE CARRY LIFE OR HEALTH INSURANCE ON HUNTING HOUNDS? DOES THIS TYPE OF INSURANCE EVEN EXIST? IF IT DOES ARE THERE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS? IM HEARING MULTIPLY STORIES OF HIGH DOLLAR LEAD DOGS GETTING INJURED OR EVEN KILLLED BY LIONS, BEARS. SOME DOGS EVEN GETTING STOLEN.

Shadowhunter : None that I have ever heard of .Last 2 years we have lost 3 hounds to bears . Rigg dog , a 4 year old , and a 9 month old . Collectively close to $5,000 invested by no means top of the line . In the same time-frame add in another $2,000 vet fees for both Preventive maintenence and Injury / sickness . Why would any insurence company want to get involved with covering hounds :?: Seems like High risk ,Little return for them.

Here is a web link on pet health insurance. If you’re really interested in getting health insurance for your hound I would get with your vet and ask if they have any recommendations. There’s a bunch of different companies out there that offer health insurance.

My apologies to all . Perhaps I am wrong . i always looked at the insurence field as companies willing to take a risk. As an example ,generally speaking a 30 year old houndsman is usually in good Physical health due to the nature of what we do ,lots of physical activity. Conversely I am 65 and have had a stroke and a heartattack. My buddies seem to think I should have been CULLED a long time ago

I would also think that an insurence company would have different rates for different breeds . As example a POODLE/PET would probably be cheaper than a PLOTT hound . Not sure how many people keep Plotts as Pets .If they got moved to a hunting category such as Bear /Lion I would think the rates would go through the roof.

Just like workmans Comp type situation an Office worker pays a lot less than say a roofer or construction worker. I guess Hounds would be considered " High Risk"
