Re: PBR/Rodeo Fans
Shorty when you get to talking dogs with Mike mention the name Bob Gallaher and see what he says. That was my father in law and one of the best houndsmen around.Mike came from the same town.Mike called us one time when he was still with Flying 5 and said he needed some horses for the wild horse race in Tonasket. We had a rodeo of our own that weekend but since he was going to be right there at our home we left 8 little bitty reservation shitters in the corral for him to pick up and use.Mike called my father in law on monday and said when he loaded those horses in the chute and every one of them just stood very calmly while those guys haltered them(we didn't tell him they were all chute broke) he thought oh no Bob Gallaher stuck one on me this is gonna be a joke.He said when they opened the chute it was one of the funniest wild horse races he had ever seen.all weekend they got one road and only three saddled.those suckers were chasing the teams around trying to bite them and strike. We also had forgot to mention we had picked out the nastiest dispositioned and best bareback horses we had. lol

Re: PBR/Rodeo Fans
I’ve been a PBR and rodeo in general fan for years. We don’t go to a lot of events but like to watch it on TV. While I never grew up around livestock my extended family were farmers and really into horses. They have traveled extensively, mostly team penning but also showing and now training reining horses. Then my sister started dating and eventually married an amateur bull rider. He wasn’t a farm boy but had a love for the sport. He never made much of a career at it but really became engrained in the business and people. In fact he’s going up to Wiley Peterson place this weekend to shoot pictures of a kids bull riding camp Wiley is putting on. Also about 6 years ago my wife and I had a chance encounter with Brazilian man at a small town local bar in our home town. He was a migrant worker but also rode bulls. We introduced him to my brother in law who used to live around here also and they soon started riding together we are all still friends. He’s since move to Texas to be closer the Brazillian invasion in Texas. He doesn’t ride anymore but has gotten to know many of the top Brazillian riders. Now that none of my bull riding family or friends are riding or even live around here anymore I just watch it on TV.
The PBR has tried to keep changing and finding ways to stay fresh and keep the viewership and the money coming into the sport. Right now my biggest worry is the fact there are just may be too many un-rideable bulls in the sport. I know that may sound like an oxymoron because after all this is the toughest sport on dirt. But it comes down to keeping fans interested. Imagine watching football games where neither team scored. People would stop watching. The same will happen to bull riding if the short go’s are nothing but buck offs. It used to be fun to watch the crazy wild card bull like Reindeer Dippin that nobody could ride. But the rest of the pen was ridable and even the rank bulls like Little Yellow Jacket was rideable. Now the short go’s end up being 2 or 3 rides and that’s not going to be good for the sport. In fact when I talk to my BIL he says all the contractors and auctioneers that he knows are all going for the crazy over the top bull and getting rid of all the rideable stuff because that seems to be where the money is. He and I both agree that the PBR is getting boring because you can pretty much predict how the short go is going to go down. It’s just my opinion but I think Cody Lambert needs to back off a little on the short go bulls and keep some more rideable but rank bulls in the pen. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to see go after go of easy rides on easy bulls. But I also think the bull power has gotten a little out of hand and they need to keep the “rank but ridable” philosophy that built up the PBR before all the money went into the bull futurities and all these over the top bulls.
Shorty, I love watching you on the PBR and you are one of my favorite parts of the program. Keep up the good work. Oh and tell the PBR that pay-per-view’s are for all-star wresting not bull riding.

Re: PBR/Rodeo Fans
I agree on the pay per view. However don't you think it would have sucked if Micheal Jordan didn't get to play because he was better than everyone else. I know exactly what your saying but I think the riders need to ride better. The brizialians are kicking butt because they take care of business. You won't see them out drinking all night, nope, they treat it like a business. If the Americans would take some notes they'd ride alot more bulls.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just down on some of these guys. Waisting talent and money just because they think they'll miss a good time. No not all Americans are this way but a good many are. Don't they know they can party all week. Not like any of them have a real job.

Re: PBR/Rodeo Fans
Shorty I agree with you that the Brazilians aren’t here to goof off. They are here to better their live and the lives of their families and that can only be done by being the best damn bull rider they can possibly be. As a county we are all pretty privileged here in America. Even if these talented American bull riders waste their talent, they will still lead nice healthy, happy lives. The same isn’t true for the Brazilians. A lot of these guys don’t have anything to fall back on. If they don’t make it a bull rider there isn’t a cushy life waiting for them in Brazil. Having Brazilian friends and hearing their stories about life in the Brazil really articulated were the sheer drive comes from in these Brazilians. This is their one shot at having a life that they could never provide in Brazil. Some of the American just don’t want it, or actually need it as much as the Brazilians.
My brother in law and I have discussed the possibility that the Brazilians will eventually completely take over the PBR and what that will do the viewership. It’s already tough when the fans can’t understand the riders when they are being interviewed. My BIL has always said that it will never happen because there are so many talented bull riders in America that want it enough to keep up with the Brazilians. But since him and I started discussing this over the last 7-8 years, there was been a strong shift. It’s getting rarer and rarer to see the top 10 filled with anything but Brazilians. I’m with you and wish some of these American would appreciate the gift they have been given and use it to their fullest extent.
