All Trigg pack?
All Trigg pack?
I had a dog hauled to me by Red Wing last spring and I was talking with Chuck when he brought it and he told me about someone in West Virginia that he hauls for that ran nothing but registered Triggs on bear. I was wondering if anyone knew who that was or even if you are on this forum. Just looking to get a conversation going about these dogs, it was intriguing when Chuck told me about them, all he really knew was that they did catch lots of bear with these dogs, didn't really know any details like if they were hunted on other game, how they treed, how they rigged, how they trailed, etc. etc.
Re: All Trigg pack?
my grandfather had them while i was growing up. he hunted fox only with them. I dont ever remember them being used for anything else. course when they caught the fox didnt last long.

Im no expert but I know a trigg is a type of running dog that is breed with a strong instinct to move a track, and little desire to tree, works well crossing into tree dogs not so sure how they do when they are pure
Re: All Trigg pack?
Some hunters have bred the triggs to tree by picking ones that tree to ones that tree. Mostly gray fox hunters. Dewey

Re: All Trigg pack?
Triggs are not suppose to tree like d says so if you have one that trees it is a cull and if you have another that is a cull you breed them and then maybe you will get more culls hmm what a deal
Re: All Trigg pack?
Yes that's a gross generalization to say that Triggs that tree are culls. If you're purposely choosing to cultivate an ability to tree that is by definition not culling.

Re: All Trigg pack?
as a matter of fact yes the dogs that were bred down from fox hounds that would tree were culled from the main pack because they do not want dogs that will tree. you can call it any thing you want. now if you want to reinvent the wheel have at it. but there have been many breeders threw the years that knew what they were doing to make tree dogs. and we have been blessed to be able to hunt the dogs that they have been breeding for all them years. I know there are many of you out here that think you need to have running dog in your lines for one reason or another but if you stick with a line of hounds that were bred for the characteristics that you want you should not have to out cross to a line of dogs that are not tree dogs.

Re: All Trigg pack?
I own 2 registered Trigg pups. Think of them like a running Walkers. Both are strains of the American Foxhound from what I have read.
So if a culled running Walker is concidered a treeing Walker does that mean my Trigg pups that tree are treeing Triggs?
