sportdog 3200 or 2525
has anyone used the sportdog are they as good as the tri tronics trashbreaker new to hounds and i dont want to buy junk i have two 1 year old walkers that chased there first deer the other night i was lucky to cut them off with the shock collers i have but they are only good for a couple hundred yards if they would have been any farther i wouldnt have stopped them i dont have a lot of money thats why i asked about the sportdog Thank you
Re: sportdog 3200 or 2525
i have both "tri tronics and sportdog" and like sportdog for several reasons. but everyone has their own preference. the range and power are great as is the ease of use and the life expectancy is good. at first glance the the tri tronics remote may look more durable however i haven't found that to be true with more failure with them. what issues i've ever had with the sportdog were quickly remedied. I lost a transmitter in the field once and they replaced it no questions asked. I hadn't even expected it and had called to purchase the replacement. the collar i sent in was replaced immediately so i can't say the extra price tag is really needed

My suggestion would be to go with the 3225. It has the better features of any of the sportdog shock systems. I bought the 3225 about 8 months ago and i am not regretting it at all. I love the way it works.

I have had the same question. I am looking at the SD2525. Does anyone use this collar. Is there any advantage to spending an extra 30 dollars for the SD3225. To me it appears the transmitter style is the biggest difference. They appear to be similar in capability. It claims to do everything Tri Tronics will do, and sounds like Sport dog has good product support. I am also new to hounds and starting out with my first pup.

Re: sportdog 3200 or 2525
I have the SD3225 and my son has the Tri Tronics Trashbreaker. Either works very well. I have not had to try out the 2 mile claimed range yet, but have stopped a couple of deer races out over 600 yards. I like that the SD transmitter is smaller and easy to carry in a shirt pocket, but I am not particularly fond of the 3 different ranges of correction intensity. You have to set the intensity range level at the reciever and if you have the level set at the #1 or #2 range you cannot get the maximum intensity that the unit is capable of IF you need it. If the reciever is set at the #3 level and you only want to "tickle" your dog a little the lowest setting at the transmitter may still be too much fot that. Granted you get more levels of intensity, though not sure how many actually because I emailed SD about this and they told me that the higher settings at lower ranges would over lap the lower settings of the next range, but you cannot go from the units minimum to maximum in any one range. For instance, the higher settings at level 2 may be enough to stop trashing, but if they were to get after someones cattle I want to hit them as hard as possible. With the TT you can go from tickle to knockdown just by turning the dial up, probably not so with the SD. Understand that I bought my unit primarily to break my dogs off unwanted game and not for training, and was trying to save every penny, the SD was a little less expensive. It has been my experience that the SD works as advertised and is reliable and durable. The Tri Tronics Trashbreaker is just that, a trashbreaker, and the SD might be more suitable for training where you only want to correct your dog without hurting or scaring it. But, knowing what I know now, and especially if the TT transmitter were as small, or nearly so, as the SD I'd go with the TT. My 2 cents worth.
