so about 5 yrs ago a friend of mine said his uncle wanted to get back into hound hunting . he called me up and wanted my advice on a dog he was trying out , we went hunting and i told him to pass on the dog and ended up saleing him one of mine . he lived and hunted 10 miles or so from where i hunted so it wasnt a big deal . once or twice a year we would hook up and hunt together . i would take him to my little honey hole and he said he would never go there without me . there is a reason there are cats there i dont kill the females . so about a month ago i here through the grape vine he is hunting up there . witch bothered me but not much i can do about it being it is public property. it is surrounded by private and i know most of the owners . i have always been respectfull to there property and try to stay off . my problem now is i keep hearing about him trespassing riding his atv all over . our relation ship is over forever as of lastweek when he said he was still going to hunt up there . he is pissing people off and the end result is going to mess up what i have had for 20 plus years. he has managed to piss off alot of land owners and every where he goes the cops are not far behind . be careful who u help out it might bite u in the ass.

Ain't that funny how after a couple years some guys forget what they said.
That's why I like to hunt by myself.

It is amazing how deep the emotions go over issues like this. I think most of us that have been around awhile have similar stories. When I studied the depth of emotion, it helped me realize some things. Through the history of man, untold thousands have died over the issue of hunting territory. In our ancient genetic make up, it really was a matter of life and death. Even in more recent years a man killed some people in Wisconsin over hunting territory. I have met people on two different occasions who vowed to kill some one over disrespecting their hunting territory. Interesting that it happened to be the same man they both vowed to kill. This man was arrogant and disrespectful of other hunters.
I am certainly not advocating killing people who are disrespectful in this way. But I am warning them, they are fooling with an ancient emotion that ought not be fooled with.
Dignity, respect and honor are things we all can live with.
It was extremely frustrating as a young man trying to learn. I could not get anyone in my area to let me go hunting with them. I found past hunters who would give me advice though, and the rest was up to me. That might just be the nature of cat hunting. Take what ever advice you can glean, and go make a dog. I certainly do not hold it against those who would not take me hunting. On the contrary, I understand completely. In fact, I am glad they did not take me hunting near my home. I myself would have felt bound to never go back there without them. As it was, there were no places I could not go. Any place I went was just an honest attempt at stumbling around out there looking for the needle in the haystack.

Better yet take a new guy bear hunting, two years later he puts out bait right on top of your bait site that you have been baiting for years. Even went as far as not putting out a bait tag (Requiered in ID) and leaving garbage (bread wrappers ect..) all around. Then shooting a bear, or I should say had his wife shoot one, without having a bear tag. Then post pics and brags about it right here on this site. Good news, a guy that hunts the next drainage over turns him in to fish and game, they catch him at one of his illegal bait sites and hammer him for all of the above. He lost his lic. for a few years but now is back in the woods, and on this site under a different name. I guess time will forgive but never recieving an appology does not make the time go by any faster.

I know how you feel. If it makes you feel any better, I was in there yesturday and most if not all of the crossings were still being used. The dogs put up a little female & we ended up letting her go. The cat population is as good in there as I have ever seen it. Maybe only taking the bigger toms out has been a good move. Just remember these guy's come and go, alway's spouting about having it all figured out. I mentioned it to dad & he said hell let him run all the coyotes he wants.

jc, its a shame things like this happen. It is hard to take someone under your wing and then have it turn around and bite you in the butt. Sometimes being the good guy doesnt seem like it worth it but for every jerk out there there is a good one also. Hope this helps some. later, Andy
