"Houndn'ems b-ticks" my dads tom!

Postby houndnem » Thu Dec 15, 2011 11:51 pm

my dad has been applying for a lion tag for eight years. he finally drew one this year. this would be our first trip out. found a tom track that went in snow for 20 yards and then straight up a dry hill side. it looked way fresh and it was only 930 so we went back to the truck and got the dogs. the dogs trailed the cat well up the dry hills for over a mile. then dropped into the forks of a snow filled canyon. when we hit the nice powder I thought it would be over quick, but to my surprise this cat took us on a death march up the snow covered peak. apperantly the dogs caught him on the ground before he treed because they were all tore up when we got there. after deciding the cat was a tom my dad decided to take him. he doesn't have much time to hunt or the money to go so it was very lucky the first cat was a tom. I did tell him that it was illegal to shoot females before we left that morning.lol I will remember the experiance of getting to hunt cats with my old man for a long time!!! enjoy.

"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

I'm glad that you and your father got to hunt together. Looks like your dogs got a few "smart marks" before you got there. Hope they are all OK come morning. Congrats!
