trucks
trucks
I've been tossing around the idea of getting a bigger truck, currently hunt out of a 2006 tacoma regular cab. I love my truck but have 2 kids and a wife and need somthin to pull a small horse trailer also. I'm looking at either an f150 from 2004 to 08 or goin up to a diesel 2500. What are everybodies experiences hunting out of or pulling a trailer with a full size truck? Also any info on the 4 door tacomas with the v6 would be great.

Re: trucks
Hey Buddy,
I have a dodge 2500 diesel. I was out with a guy a month or so ago that had a smaller truck. HE was telling me that he got it sto save fuel. I can understand that but at the end of the day we both went in to top off the tanks and he put 3 more gallons in than I did and I have room for friends and family. For what that's worth.

Re: trucks
His truck was a Ford Ranger gas. For the exact same miles, he used 3 more gallons than my big truck.

Re: trucks
I hunt out of a small toyota tacoma gets alright mileage. But what i keep in mind is . That i would rather dig out a small truck than a full sized rig older 2000 tundra or f150 hunted in both.
Gettin western !
Re: trucks
If you're willing to add a few stripes and some tree dents to the bumpers a full size will do just fine. The fuel capacity is a plus, as you don't have to worry about running out due to a day of cutting. It's also nice to be able to lug a diesel slowly down the road when you're cutting. As YotaDawger said though, getting them unstuck is a bit tougher in the Dodge than in the Yota!

Don't get me wrong I love my yota. Just with it bein a regular cab I can't haul more than myself and 2 other people and that bein a tight squeeze. I also can't pull my horses. I'd love to have a 4 door Tacoma but I'm still worried that won't pull the 2 horses.

RAPTOR!!
Haha...don't go that route unless you love the local gas station. 14 mpg is the best the in-laws have ever had, and that was going downhill the whole way. Average when we're cutting roads is 7 in that thing. But it sure can cover some ground when it needs to, and pretty comfortably too!!

I had a ranger for years.. went to a dodge half ton after the ford died. more power and more capibilities and its a 4 door too.. I put a winch on it too... lil trucks are nice where its tight but I don't care if I get a few scratches in the big blue truck..

I hunt out of a F350 extended cab- during the week I can pull my 8 horse trailer and haul my kids back and forth to school, during the weekend I can fit dog box and wheeler in the back plus haul people and gear. I can also bring a four wheeler trailer if needed with more machines. If road gets to tight I just drive the four wheeler, I dont like to dig out a big or small truck.

Re: trucks
We've got a v6 Toyota 4 door that's a pretty good truck. Know a few guys that hunt out of em too but we don't in ours. Think it would do great if we did though. The guys that hunt with em like em.
