Im pouting this under big game hunting so i can get more opinions
Im looking in to the majestic hound Im told that they pack a lot more size to them and that they can keep up with the average hound and they are just as athletic and wonderful I also was told they are using allot of high bread gascon blue ticks and the english hound with good blood hounds to try and get the original looks and hunting abilities of the old fashion hounds
so what Im asking is there any truth to this and why are they not more popular here in the west and what is the good's and bad's of this bread of hounds and have they proved to be Ok on bear and bob cat hunters

E Z , I`m interested in what all will post here too reply, its not a trick question and maybe you have given much thought too it andcsee some benifits ?! Inlighten us by your figureings too the same questing your asking us all to answer/futher deepen our thinking on what your certainly looking atmakes em relivent to use in your thinking .
cecil well here in utah we get some deep snow and iv seen some shorter dogs struggle with it and i was wondering if a bigger stronger dog would help and if being blood hound would it be extremely cold nose and wouldn't a big power full dog last as long on an all day chase that is properly exercised and all so would it cover more ground and being bread to the finest of the hounds wouldn't that make the hounds a natural hunter
I'm new to the whole hound deal but i sure do like a big hound. When i think about a hound i guess i just picture a large powerful hound. In fact recently i've been brosing around looking for something like you say. I think it would be a nice touch to have a big hound to go with my curs lol.
why do you think it would be a good touch to run with your cur dogs
what is it you like about them they seem to be the ticket in are country what will they offer to you
Some of the old historical type of biggame hounds were pretty large. I've been working on an old strain that is almost lost. I saw a pic of Bill Greens' Scout that I will try to put on here.
We hunt with a couple Majestics in CO so this is based only on what they do..
They have a pretty cold nose.. They are not pack leading dogs.. They are heavy and the last ones into the tree every single time.. They are pretty athletic as in getting around the rocks... as in.. they make it through.. they have no tree in them though... They are 50% bloodhound... And this is just on these two dogs only...
I have seen those old pictures with those leggy dogs.. but most seem to not weigh as much as the Majestics.. They seem really lanky.. Long legs for sure.. but not as blocky.. Just lanky... I have a 8 month old cross bred pup, really houndy, huge head, super long ears.. all legs... he looks a lot like those pictures.. he is about 65lbs right now.. but looks like he weighs about 80...

You've only got 3 choices in life
give in, give up, or give it all you got.
I have a freind that some of you know, but not sure he would want to be associated with me so wont mention the name. He runs (and catches)
coyotes. His dogs are real tall and look like they would weigh around 50 lbs or more. They are closer to 35 or 40. They are real spring loaded and athletic. He says their feet and legs hold up much better than the bigger heavier dogs, just because they are lighter and got real good shock absorbers.
From his observations, could we say: pads, and feet being equal, the lighter, springy dog will hold up better?
go to the page you want and hit refresh the top of by your search window it works on mine i don't know why they disappear .Larry
