Is this the answer to our prayers?
Re: Is this the answer to our prayers?

That's not nearly enough information, sounds like a setup!
It looks like a Wheaten or Collie cross with Greyhound and Deerhound...just a guess. I've put together a stag x boarder collie cross that I'm going to work on bobcats with and I have a total of ZERO examples to draw off of. I sure would appreciate hearing more about this.

Someone is always trying to reinvent the wheel, nothing wrong with that. But, if catching every race is the thing one enjoys most about cat hunting, why not get a pocket full of snares? You will not need to buy dog food. One of those dogs might be fine, but, hard to beat a good open trailing hound that will pick up their head and run when jumped. For myself a tight mouth hound is not fun to hunt with, one in the pack is at times a real plus. Have a great day and enjoy hunting will you can. Al

Oh for crying out loud. I remember when the Model-T was all we had and we liked it! Al, is it alright with you if some of us are interested in a dog different from yours? [Rhetorical]

Re: Is this the answer to our prayers?
This obviously interests me more than most because of the stag/boarder collie pups I'm raising. I've not seen another example of a lurcher that is similar in type to mine that are being used on bobcats so naturally I went nuts when I saw this post.
I've seen some things since I started this project that are making me very hopeful and excited for what may come.
There is a video for sale in the UK that shows lurchers cold trailing, jumping and catching and killing red fox. Andrew something...there are 3 or 4 videos now. They used to be on U-Tube but the owner pulled them and started selling them. I've only seen the first one but it showed me what is possible (at least up to the point of having to locate). Here's a link to the site where the video can be bought:

I know this doesn't account for locating and locking down treed but there are many boarder collies that can locate very well and tree. If I can find the pups that do this I've got one more leg of this journey completed. That is why I went with the stag/BOARDER COLLIE for my first cross. Additionally, the boarder collie sire to these pups runs a track well and the stag dam is doing things on track that I did not think she could. I'm going to spend some time on the stag female this winter and see just what she can do on track. I'm going to work her like a hound and see where she comes out. From what I've seen already, she is going to at least do well on a warm track.
Will this dog in the above picture become the next greats cat killer...will mine? There's a better than average chance we'll all find out in the next couple of years.

Re: Is this the answer to our prayers?
a man I know and trust had a female named Kate, that lived to be 10 years old until she was killed by a cougar in a den. says she caught every cat she ever ran[ not just trailed] I'm thinking everyone of us would want pups out of a dog like that. so whats wrong with catching them all? haven't said much for along time but had to ask? that's one of the yard sticks we use to gauge dogs to breed, at least I hope so.

Re: Is this the answer to our prayers?
Absolutely nothing wrong with trying to catch every cat one runs. For me I would not enjoy hunting a tight mouth hound & would not give up a open trailer even if a tight mouth caught every cat. I have never met or hunted with a hunter who said they caught every cat they ran. Hunted with a hunter once who had told me his dog never back tracked. The first day we hunted that hound took a track backwards the rest of his & my dogs took the track in the opposite direction & caught the cat. Dogs are only dogs. Hunt what you enjoy. Al
