Garmin high watt damage from VHF radios

Has anyone had any success or fails using "reddog filter" bandpass filter for protection against damage to garmin receivers from excessive watts from marine type vhf radios?

Nope I've never heard of it. I haven't had any damage problems with garmins since the original 220s. I just try to keep it on low wattage but there are plenty of times I've forgot.
