Panniers

Postby Cowboyvon » Thu Mar 19, 2015 3:23 pm

Anybody ever build any panniers to pack your hounds..? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Brett,

In Del Cameron's book I saw a photo of a guy packing his hounds in not sure if they were custom built. Do you reckon Orville Fletcher would pack a dog in to save on his feet?? :)

I think the ones in Del's book were wooden boxes. Im pretty sure someone made some out of barrels too.

I've been down in south tx hunting .. real good country if you can stay on the rims or in the bottoms ... getting across the tops is a different story that dog pear can eat you up.. one of the guys I'm hunting with has a lot of mules so we kind of had an Idea ..lol

lol
Just start using jagdterriers, after the proper discussions with your horse you can have two or three of those little fellers riding behind you on your horse. you don't even have to load them, it is pretty easy to train them to crawl up by themselves. Does take a fairly understanding horse tho.

If you happened to have someone handy with a video camera to film your first attempt, either hounds in panniers on mules or jagds behind your saddle on horses, I'm sure we would all enjoy watching the video so please be sure and post it.

Thanks

I know of a few guys using 50 gallon plastic water barrels. Just a few straps attached and a door. They would be relatively light weight and weather proof.

Brett,
Back in the early days of this forum a guy from Idaho posted some pics.of some he had built to haul dogs into the frank church wilderness area to bear hunt. I think his username was Smiley.
Not sure if you can search back that far? Thinking 2006 or 2007 when Zues was the owner.

I think it might have been "catch" that had them.
