Bobcat dogs
Re: Bobcat dogs
Hmmmmm you are starting sound like someone else i know?????? Lol....... You'll do fine pilgrim just fine!
Re: Bobcat dogs
As David wrote in his book about the level of bobcat hunters I feel there is a level of bobcat dogs. What I expect out of a dog and willing to breed that dog means only something to me. Some people are totally happy catch a coon ,bear, lion or bobcat every so often some are no. If you like it and it's works for you hunt it. Dewey

Re: Bobcat dogs
No such thing as the perfect dog. There are the hunters who make dogs. What makes success is two things, time and money. If a man has just enough money and unlimited time, he will have better dogs. Dogs get better with experience, and just because a dog doesn't have such and such in its breeding doesn't mean it can't learn to do it by seeing other dogs do it successfully, sometimes they don't but it can happen.

Re: Bobcat dogs
I sure hope a lot more then: time money and bobcats go into making a legit dog. I think I'll be disappointed and board if that's all it takes.
Re: Bobcat dogs
It takes a good dog to make a bobcat dog. Hard hunting and the knowledge of bobcats makes you a bobcat hunter. You can not make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Just treeing a few bobcats does not make you or your dog a bobcat dog and bobcat hunter. It takes time and knowledge of your dogs and of the bobcats. For me a bobcat hunter is just that a bobcat hunter. You have coon hunters, bear hunters, lion hunters, fox hunters and people that don't care what their dogs run ,running it all. Each to their own. Realize bobcat hunters think down a very narrow tunnel only looking for bobcats. Just my opinion. Each to their own. Dewey

Re: Bobcat dogs
If a game warden try's to ticket me for for hunting bobcat out of season I'm going to tell him "you can't write me that ticket, Dewey says that I ain't a bobcat hunter!
Dewey, you may be summoned to Fla. to testify.

Re: Bobcat dogs
There certainly are different levels of bobcat dogs, not everyone who enjoys hunting bobcat with dogs has the same time, money, cat population, & permission to good hunting areas. I do not believe one has to make his life/s mission to be the best known bobcat hunter, to be considered a bobcat hunter. Lots of us have long been envious of hunters who found ways to earn a living, while not being tied to a full time job. Anyone who keeps 8 to 10 bobcat dogs that never bark off track & catch 99% of the cats jumped is certainly in a small elite group. If one has dogs that catch enough cats to keep hunting enjoyable, and 99% of the time runs cat only, in my opinion that person is a knowledge cat hunter & has bobcat dogs. Al
