My number is 3. Two strike/bay dogs and one catch dog.

I would consider about 15. I'm running with a friends pack and we are running 20hounds at present.

One good one is all you need but I prefer two, sometimes three. One old dog & a couple of young dogs. Any more then that & my dogs will catch anything or the hog will break & it is off to the races.

We got 2strike dogs which are best on the cold scent to find em sounder. If we get there before the sounder breaks we.ll shoot but normally one will break and the chase is on!

There are very few houndsmen that I know of that use less than 10dogs on bush pig but I also don't know anyone who uses catch dogs here or have use one but regret it after they payed the vet bills.

Thank y'all. I agree with Cajun on this too. @cajun. My dogs get to rough with any more than that. 1 finished dog and one well past started dog. And a puppy is all I try to run. And on the right hog I'll dump 2 curs to them if it gets too long. But there's only A handful of places I hunt they run like that. Them hogs run across highways like there game trails when we start putting fresh legs on em. Haha. Appreciate the response. Just wondering how many people on here use more than 8. Cause I know someone who turns out about 20 and I'm not saying he doesn't catch hogs. But it's not my style. He loves it though. And that's what matters.

I've caught hogs with one dog on the ground and with 15 dogs on the ground, I prefer to have 2-4, if I'm hunting just my dogs I like to have 2 experienced dogs, 1 good started dog, and one pup, if there's only one or two dogs baying I like to send in another dog just to see if the hogs going to hold the pressure before I walk into a bay and only have it break when I send the catch dog, like was stated earlier terrain and hunting pressure has a lot more to do with things than most people realize. A good smart catch dog is worth his weight in gold.

I ve been having pretty good luck running mine as a pack about 4-6 on the ground and not too many getting hurt small cuts here and there but overall they re learning each other and keeping bad running hogs bayed. And I enjoy hearing em burning a hogs ass together lol. On smaller hogs they wad up and catch and kill em on bad hogs or larger hogs that are rough they ll bay right and I ll send a bulldog in then everyone piles on for the ride.

Tracker, from what i hear & see from Roy Sparks hunts y'all probably are shooting the bush pigs when y'all bay them up. That must be a racket with 20 dogs baying. Must be a heck of a race too when the Pigs break. What breed of hounds are y'all running over there.
Mostly down here we catch everything alive & tie them. Stems from old traditions but a lot of fun.
