Longshot, sorry to here that. all hog hunters know thats part of the game, but that sure don't make it any easier to swallow when it happens.
at least he didn't get away with it.
Thats why I always haul 2 catch dogs even though I expect 1 to be able to get the job done. I had a AB but the bay broke in front of us and he went off chasing shoats and my Dogo Gyp caught this one alone and when she died and turned loose I almost got my legs tore up but the bay dogs went for his rear and got him turned away from me. One of the very few close calls I have had while hunting.
I would not kill that hog if I could have my Dogo back. But like you said things can happen. Longshot
Great Job Longshot.... That is a nice hog . You know that Ryan and me got the number 2 slot on the free range list now. The cutters on it were broke off or he would have had the number one . Ryan knifed that moster down here a few monthes ago.
Yea, he almost killed a catchdog, on first catch he bit the vest and slung the dog 15 feet. The catchdog came right back and latched on and Ryan jumped in for the stick just as the beast was about to kill the catchdog. It was non stop action . Ryan aint going to tell you, but it took guts to get in there and stick that monster in the middle of all that action. He did the job and didnt even blink. Ryan is pretty cool under pressure. Later Ryan admitted that the hog looked like a volkwagon with shag carpet !
