How much are you willing to spend? What you are asking for will not be cheap.

How much money is a guy looking at for a dog like this? A good finished dog that can start and finish a track, put a lion in a tree and keep it there?
The fascination of hunting cougar with hounds lies in the discovery and unravelling of a complicated trail, watching an honest hound strike out on a track that has been found and read, and finally bringing the animal to bay so that you can see it for yourself---Jerry A. Lewis

That is a huge investment for something that can be runover, get an illness, runaway or get stolen amongst many things.

Yea but in the end to finish a dog out your self, its adds up to more than that.

Mike,
You are right about that. My wife would kill me if she knew how much I really spend on my dogs. So right now I think GHC's biggest problem is finding something like that for sale.

The boys in the US tend to value their dogs (dollar wise) higher than we do in Western Canada. You might get lucky and get a good one for $2000 or more but you likely need to be connected to someone or just plain lucky.Having said that forums such as this one are educating us Canucks.

I suppose a guy could sell a $5,000.00 dry ground start to finish dog for two grand. That would be like selling a lifesize stone sheep skin for $2,000.00. You could if you wanted, but there are a lot of people willing to pay the five grand. Demand sets the price. I sure have gotten a lot of calls from Canadian outfitters looking for two thousand dollar finished dogs, so what you are saying might be right on. I feel, however if someone is asking $2,000.00 for a dog it is usually not worth more than that. A super nice dog brings super good money most every time.
